pigpenz
at the table I bid 4♣ on the way to 4♠ expecting the opponents to bid over 4♠'s, figuring that it gave us a great shot to beat 5♥
whereagles
4♣ is fine, though it runs the risk of pard taking it for club values instead of lead-directing.

Guest Jlall
4C? Wait a minute...doesn't 4C get partner involved if the opponents bid and ask him to look at his club holding? Partner will not be able to evaluate at all, he will think club values/length are good and no values in clubs are bad. I would bid 4S hoping to shut them out. mikeh
The usual use of 4♣ is, as Justin says, to show ♣ length/values, and, by implication, to deny any defence in the red suits. It involves partner in the decision as to what to do over 5♥. It most assuredly does not describe a ♣ void! It is interesting to look at the possible developments after this misleading bid. It is possible that we could end on our feet. But I would just bid 4♠, assuming captaincy and I will bid 5♠ if needed. This is imps and they are red, so I am not letting them play 5♥ when I rate to be -500 on my worst day and +650 on a good but not unreasonable day (Kxx x Kxxx xxxxx or Kxx xx KJx xxxxx are merely some of the hands giving me an excellent chance)
pigpenz
I thought it was an interesting idea, on the actual hand four♥/♠ cant make ;) partners hand was kx,xx,xx,qj10xxxx
Fluffy
Do you open 6 card major? :) I would bid 4♦, to let partner help at the 5 level.
pigpenz
Do you open 6 card major? :) I would bid 4♦, to let partner help at the 5 level. haha, question is my partner thought i skewed the bidding more than he did.
Winstonm
Right. If I were to bid anything other than 4S here it would be 4D, but I don't think the diamond suit is enough for that bid...so the pratical bid once again:4S.
