Bidding 1NT - p - 2♣ 3♠p -4♠ What do u do? What's your thinking - what does opps / partners hands likely to look like? Steve
Free
5♣, I don't feel like defending with this hand. I did stayman, so I hope partner knows I have 4♥. This should be serious slam try, but NF.
P_Marlowe
Dbl. Will we beat 4S? Probably yes, but it is unclear if -3. Can we make something on the 5/ 6 level?Maybe, maybe not, I will go with dbl, but you have to get it right. Marlowe
Blofeld
My first instinct is to double: partner may take it out with some suitable hands. That said, I can also see him leaving it in with some hands that make slam icy. Perhaps 5♣ is better, but I think I still double.

luis
I hate the dbl. If the opponents know what they are doing they have values in spades so pd might have all the good fillers for our hand. I'm going to bid 5NT as "pick a slam" I can easily miss a grand but will be happy to play 6.

There is also the danger of partner being 3343 and bidding diamonds instead of clubs.
Chamaco
Was 2C "Forcing Stayman" or can it be garbage stayman? If my pass is forcing, I'll pass and pull to invite slam
whereagles
Well, opposite a strong NT I might pull out. Since pard's NT is a weak NT, I'm going to double because I expect few pairs to be in slam and +500 seems likely.

awm
We're playing with a 34-point deck, since I have singleton spade. Partner has 12-14 points, I have 17. That's 29-31 working points out of 34, which should be easily enough for slam (27 is usually borderline for slam). Of course, it could happen that partner has a lot of wasted cards in spades, but this seems unlikely given the bidding (in fact opponents are a favorite to hold ten spades between them, and I'd be surprised for partner to have something like KQ tight or even Kx or Qx). We could even have a grand slam here: xxxAKxxxKQxxx Admittedly such a grand is not that likely, and will be hard to bid, so I'll be happy to get to a small slam. I'll go with 5♠. Might partner bid 6♦? It's possible, but if partner has five card diamonds this will play okay. For partner to be 3343 is somewhat unlikely, since this gives opponents only nine spades. If partner is 2344 or the like (or even possibly the dreaded 3343) then 5NT is available to ask me to select a minor suit.
jdeegan
 Even if I take the reasonable position that partner does not have a spade card, the opps still have one or two picture cards between them, so bidding seven is out even if it makes on a hook. Pard already knows about my four hearts. The choice, to me, is between a timid 5♣ or a bolder 6♣. Bidding 5♠ could land us in a 4-3 ♦ fit and it is only necessary to play this hand in diamonds in order to find a fit if pard is specifically 3-3-5-2. It sounds like the opps are favored to have 10 spades, so this hand is very unlikely. Put me down for a cheerful 6♣.
badderzboy
When I played the hand, I took the view that (i) I had shown hearts with the stayman bid and (ii) if the opps know what they are doing Ptr has no wasted spade values so we have a 34pt deck we were missing at most 5 AJ or KQ so I felt slam was very likely. I considered 5♠/5NT as pick the slam but decided that 6♣ best described my hand.. The full hand [hv=d=n&v=n&n=s84hak76dj74ckq43&w=skq109762h2d6532c6&e=sj53h9853dk108cj95&s=sahqj104daq9ca10872]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv] 6♣/6♥ makes with 6♣ the most comfortable Steve
