Double is penalty expressing an expectation of defeating 1N if on lead - in other words a good suit to lead. Would you expect pard to have at least 2 cards in every suit to pass the penalty redouble or do you take out insurance and pull to 2S? Guest Jlall
I don't like Xing with hands like this, but I am glad I did and I would sit it out for sure. Maybe we'll get 1000 B)

Guest Jlall
the first one, not the second one. It's true we can beat 1N with the second hand, but we give them the whole 2 level to run which is not unlikely given our hand. If we just bid 2S or something we shut them out. I don't like Xing 1N when we can't X 6H/D/C B)

(It's not a request to run out?) In a K.O. match?
Free
Pass, if I doubled the first time I shouldn't chicken out. If it goes wrong, it goes wrong... Btw, I also don't like Dbl here, I'd just pass, and hope they invite in NT to play them one more down ;)
Finch
South redoubled for business? (It's not a request to run out?) In a K.O. match? Why is this so surprising? It's certainly how I play it in every partnership I play in.I've also seen opponents play it that way as well. From the declaring side's POV if you are doubled and are making 6 or 7 tricks with equal probability, you should redouble. Anyway, I stick it and hope, but I don't think running is absurd. As for what partner needs to stand the redouble, that's a matter for agreement.
whereagles
Pass. Maybe LHO redoubled merely on points...?
pclayton
I sit. The spades will be a big surprise to them. I guess I pay off to J-4th somewhere, but this seems unlikely.
Kalvan14
I sit. 5 tricks in 1NXX are much more likely than 7, given my hand and the lead.
Gerben42
I sit. If I would have ♠J it'd be even sweeter. I'd lead that and mention "4th best". Unless of course I think that redoubler for sure has ♠Jxxx since he is the kind of player who would only redouble with stoppers in all suits. I would not often think that.
