pclayton
And here's the last: [hv=d=n&v=n&n=skh7xxdaxxxcaqjxx&s=s108xxhkqjt98dxxcx]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Pard opens 1♣ and RHO overcalls 1♠. You make a WJO of 3♥ and LHO bids 4♠, passed back to you. Anticipating a different hand for pard, and hoping for a useful 0=3=4=6 or the like, you make the very questionable (putting it lightly perhaps) call of 5♥. LHO doubles quickly and there you are. LHO leads the A♥ (RHO follows) and puts a small diamond on the table. You made your bed and you get to sleep in it. Proceed!
adhoc3
zzzzzzz...............planning for -1. Why dont opps pull Spade A?
whereagles
Well, I don't have a full plan, but from the play so far, I'd be inclined to place LHO with something like ♠ Axx♥ A♦ Qxxxx♣ xxxx It is consistent with LHO's 4♠ bid, with him not continuing hearts, and with the low diamond switch, hoping to catch pard with a diamond honor to play a 2nd trump before the ace of spades is dislodged. And it is still consistent with RHO having his 1♠ overcall. Anyway, best seems to hop up with the diamond ace, take the ruffing finesse in clubs, give up a spade and take it from there. How much am I going down already?
Fluffy
Well, everything is a guess, but the optimum would be to ruff 2♠ in dummy without losign the hand to RHO. Lets try ♣AQ then
pclayton
Believe or not there is a lie of the cards that allows you to make this silly contract, and its not inconsistent with their bidding. I believe the actual hand was: [hv=n=skh7xxdaxxxcaqjxx&w=saxxhaxdjxxxxckxx&e=sqj9xxhxxdkqcxxxx&s=st8xxhkqjt98dxxcx]399|300|[/hv] (I'm not sure if I mentioned the diamond honor drops at T1). Oddly, LHO's diamond shift might be indicative of a vulnerable club holding as well. SO.... 3. ♥ to King (both follow)4, 5, 6 ♣ to Q, A (♦ pitch) and ruff a club getting the good news. Give up a spade and claim! 5♥+4♣+♠ruff +A♦ = 11! The problem with this line is that it risks -1400 if the club is on your right and trumps are 3-1. :P :o I just played A♣, Q♣. They never did lead another trump so I escaped for -1.
Echognome
I was thinking about this hand and at MPs, the line of play is quite obvious! You are in an anti-field contract and no way they are making 4♠. So you must take whatever risk is necessary to bring it home.
