MickyB
Yuck... I rate this pretty close between pass and 4♣ (Doubling or bidding 4♥ is far too likely to land me in the wrong strain). 4♣ will often get us overboard, but I'm not exactly expecting to get rich defending 3♠ undoubled! Guest Jlall
Would never pass in passout seat with this hand. 4C for me, just bidding my strongest/longest suit. 4H is a home run swing, it will be huge or a big strikeout.
Al_U_Card
At NV vs V, 4C stands out. If pard has some H cards then you are making.
mikeh
4♣: several ways to win, compared to few ways to lose. Double is horrible: can't stand a pass and can't stand a pull to anything Pass is wimpish: I could be on for any one of 3 games, altho 1 of those is unbiddable (3N: I can't get there from here) 4♥ is placing too many eggs in too frail a basket 4♣ may win by getting us to 5♣, or by being a better contract that defending 3♠ or, and this is a possibility rather than a probability, by getting us to 4♥. It is unlikely that partner will introduce ♥, but he may mention the other red suit , and now 4♥ might get us to a 9 card fit (he will think it is an 8 card fit)
Finch
What Mikeh says.4H if a long way down in the match and needing to swing.
han
Me too. I wonder if anybody would bid 4C in direct seat. I would think not.
Al_U_Card
I wonder if anybody would bid 4C in direct seat. I would think not. Only if I got a peek at LHO's hand.... :o

Winstonm
[hv=s=sqj1098hak4daj8ca9]133|100|[/hv] Pard elected to pass thinking that down 3 or 4 wouldn't lose much, 3n may not be a make, and something magic might happen. When it came to me, I debated 4C but knowing how aggressive my opponents were it seemed likely that partner held length in spades and some kind of hand - so whether table feel or what, I backed my judgement and doubled, feeling that if partner bid 4D I could bid 4H to show the 2-suiter. More than anything this seemed more a matter of feel, as there was some kind of nervous tension in the air that said double was the winning call - can't say if this was blind luck or just backing up table feel, but it is a good feeling when you go with your gut instinct against reason and it turns out right. whereagles
4♣. Regardless of it being natural or some two-suited hand :) By the way, you had an easy 3NT overcall there, Winston
cherdano
I would bid 4♥ You still play too much MP? :))
Gerben42
4♣ for me. Should show 2-suiter but would also bid it if it doesn't.
Guest Jlall
4♣ for me. Should show 2-suiter... Why?
MickyB
4♣ for me. Should show 2-suiter... Why? Because he thinks it is more useful than having a natural club bid... Club single suiters then have to choose between pass, double and 3NT. I think I prefer 4C as nat in direct seat and 2 suited in passout seat (because 3NT without a stop is less likely to be wrong-sided) but I play it as natural throughout in all of my partnerships.
