Chamaco
IMPNone vuln Pard opens a "standard" better minor 1D and RHO overcalls 3H preemptive. You holdAQTxxx-xxx-Qx-Ax 1D-(3H)-3S-(pass)4H - (pass)- ? No fancy agreements. What would you bid in a Team Match assuming a reliable pard but no gadgets available (except fairly normal stuff such as cuebidding, RKCB, and Grand Slam force) ? 1. no state of the match issue, assume this is the first deal2. assume "normal" opponents, not too weak, not too strong, about the same level as your team.3. assume more or less a "normal" minimum strength for the 1♦ opener, say from a shapely 11 upwards In short, what would you bid under "normal" conditions ? ;)

Guest Jlall
4H shows a strong spade raise while saying nothing about hearts. 18-19 balanced is possible, or 15 unabalanced and upwards (of course 15 is just a guideline... Kxxx x AKJxxx xx is also a 4H bid). If partner does indeed have a stiff heart, I have a huge hand. There are not many losers and my DQ could be a big card. If partner has the 18-19 balanced hand type, we may survive with just two heart losers. I would try a 5C cuebid. Over a 5H bid by partner I plan to bid 5S and respect his decision (I think 1 move is enough).
mikeh
Justin's plan seems okay: my choice is a direct 5♠ call, which (for me) would simply ask if he holds a ♥ control. I choose this because of my ♦Q: I would go with Justin's plan if that were in the ♣ suit, but unless partner is 4=1=4=4, he rates to hold 5+♦ if he has short ♥'s and now the ♦Q is a very important card. Will I bid 7 if he bids 6♥? I think I should but he hasn't bid 6♥ yet so I need not commit.
Guest Jlall
Will I bid 7 if he bids 6♥? I think I should but he hasn't bid 6♥ yet so I need not commit. I think 6D would be a cuebid showing both red aces, so 6H would deny the diamond ace (you are unlimited except for your heart holding so partner must show the HA along the way even with a min). I suppose it could be a choice of slams though, a good thing for a partnership to discuss.
mikeh
good point: I posted too quickly, focussing on why I preferred 5♠, and not thinking far enough ahead.
Kalvan14
5♣, expecting to have to rebid 5♠ over the likely 5♦. Now if opener keeps the auction alive below 6♠, he clearly shows both red aces (or a heart chicane, btw). The problem should have been clearly pinpointed around the heart suit. Just to make myself clearer: even 6♣ should confirm 1st round control in both red suits. Pard might have Kxxx - AJxxx KQJx, and it is another hand which can play very well in 7 ♠.If pard has Kxxx A KJxxx Kxx, he should be happy enough with 6♠.I would understand the difference between 6♣ and 6♦ as a concentration of values, and possibly the need for a complement to play 7.6♥ is something stronger [Kxxx - AKxxx KQJx] double-checking the trump suit consistency. Double !
why not bid 5 clubs? If I don't show it now, P might conclude that I don't have it since I by-passed the opportunity to show it. All of my cards appear to be working. DHL
