Booting specific rude kibs

Recommended Posts

Hi all :)

I have a wish for the BBO Client, if possible:

the ability to be able to boot a kibitzer.

Yes, yes, I know it i possible to restrict kibs to ask permission, but I usually do not do it.

Yet, after a while, I ran nto a couple of persons who joined as kibs and started to become obnoxious.

It was too late to boot them because they were already there !

Yet, I do not want to be obliged to set the table with kibs restrictions because of a couple of rude persons.

I'd much prefer to keep the table open to anyone, but still be able to ocasionally boot the few impolite persons.

Anyone who knows me knows as well that I am rarely hostile, and should know that the fact that I came to ask this means there were some serious reasons

Is it possible ?

Thanks :)

I've recently been doing quite a bit of online preperation for an upcoming face-to-face event with a long distance partner (16,000 km). We both have "stars" and often play against one or more "stars" so kibitzer numbers up around 100 or more are not uncommon which inevitably leads to some degree of stupid and/or inappropriate comments being made to the table.

I am usually reluctant to bar kibitzer chat as the occassional "happy new year" or "good luck everyone" doesn't bother me and some of the people I'm playing with and against have students watching with whom they may want to converse to explain a particular learning point. When it does get out of hand, however, it becomes necessary to verbally warn kibitzers to "keep their analysis to themselves" and if that doesn't work, bar kibitzer chat.

I think the required functionality in the Main Bridge Club should be for the table host to be able to tick a box which prevents enemies of either himself or possibly all four players at the table from kibitzing. That way, any kibitzers that do act inappropriately can be immediately silenced without spoiling it for everyone else.

Perhaps the way the Main Bridge Club table settings are structured could replicate tournament functionality where entry as a player or kibizer can have restrictions such as "friends only", "excluded enemies" and "custom list".

how are kibbers rude, they usually can only chat with other kibbers

One way of being rude is as follow:

I was playing with my live pard, and he got booted.

The table setting was:

kibs free to join/chat, players ask for permission before sitting.

I had not reserved the seat, so the seat was left open.

One player immediately clicked to seat, and I rejected permission: I was trying to go into the table setting to reserve the seat for my friend.

The guy went mad, even if I TRIED to explain that I was playing with my regular pard, he entered the table as kibitzer, and started to repeatedly, EVERY SECOND, to ask permission.

I could not even succed to explain to him the reasons why I rejected him as pard, because he continually clicked to request the seat.

I was unable to perform any task, let alone the task of reserving the seat for my friend, because the "Reject/accept" Dialog box freezes any other task until you click the reject/accept button, and every time I clicked the button, this guy was immediately asking again.

This went on for approximately 6-7 minutes, after which opps at the table left because they could not play.

In my opinion there must be a way to boot these persons, even when they are already at the table as kibitzers.

Also, David's idea of allowing a flexible way to filter the table access (friends/enemies, etc etc) makes sense, in cases where some people are really obnoxious.

And believe me , I am a friendly person and player, but I would be glad to be able to avoid persons who take away the fun from a bridge session.

I too find the process of rejecting a new joiner to the table quite difficult in situations where I have a replacement player lined-up, the departing player leaves and before I get a chance to reserve the new player's seat, an avalanche of requests arrives which prevents me from editing the table details.

I think this is a genuine bug in the software.

Also, the "close and reject all" button doesn't seem to have that effect. If I click that button, more requests keep coming.

Dave , you can try this crude method till you get an elegant method from Fred.

When you want to put your pd in, when there is a vacancy at your table, using Table options do the following in order.

1. Kick all kibitzers out .

2. Make table Invisible.

3. Reserve seat for your pd.

4. Make your table Visible.

5. Allow kibitzers "IN"
