Bidding:

P-1C

2C-2H

3D-3NT

Play:

West starts with a small D that runs to Easts Q.

East now returns a small spade, taken by me with the Ace.

I now play a small H to the Q, taken by East with the K. (Maybe it is better to let H8 run?)

East returns a Spade, which I let run for the T of West, who returns the spade J for my K.

From the play it is likely now that West stops the D and East the Spades.

Hearts will be the shared suit for a double squeeze. We have an entry in the shared suit and the right suit is spades in which we took our winners. So now we can run our clubs.

On the last club: East can throw his Diamond, but West will have to let go his stopper in Heart. (I throw a H from my hand).

Then we play Diamond Ace: Now East is squeezed. (position of Heart J is not important).

:) Maybe the play of the hand - and of Hearts was not optimal - but I really liked the end play. Certainly knowing that I was playing for my first double squeeze and that it worked. I will have to study some more of Inquiry's squeeze material now, so that I can write one of the other squeezes - like criss-cross or compound - on my palmares... :)

Well done, but the defense missed a chance to break up the double squeeze. although the same ten tricks might have been there.

Suppose the heart suit had been:

Q42

A1065.

Play as stated except that when east leads a spade and you win, west plays the J, showing the 10. Now when east wins the heart king, he can play the spade Q, holding the lead, and if you duck he can switch back to hearts.

For the squeeze, it would have been better timing to duck the first spade. This makes it harder on east to find the right defense. When you win the second spade and then lose to the heart king, east must abandon spades and return a heart to destroy the entry for the double squeeze. If he returns a spade, you are back in business.

Yes, but as the Heart suit lies EW can not play it themself.

This is correct, but my first goal was to try the Heart suit for 3 tricks by playing a small heart to the Q and if it holds giving away a heart and playing hearts for 3-3; for 11 tricks. That is why I think I didn't play Hearts correctly. Is is probably better to finesse for HJ instead of playing a heart to the Q. Then eleven tricks are always sure if HJ is with LHO (as it was in fact).

I certainly don't want to substract from the thrill of seeing and executing your first double squeeze - again, well done.

I only wanted to point out an interesting point in defense against squeeze play, hence this is why I suggested changing the heart spot cards.

Whether there was a better line of play is immaterial - your line worked and you recognized the position. Way to go and congrats.
