Pass or compete?

So if pard 'guarantees' 4, can I make a 2 call on 3?........

Even then I still double, if its interpreted as 'action'. Doesn't look like the hand to bid 3 over 3 with this ugly shape. But I'm not selling out to 2, and I want to give pard the option of passing, especially if he made one of those 3=4=3=3 doubles that I HATE :)

Ok, you double and the bidding goes:

(1S)-X-(P)-2H-(2S)-P-(P)-X-(P)-3H-(P)-P-(3S)-P-(P)-?

Apparently, LHO found a couple of spades on the floor :P

BTW, we play very aggressive t/o doubles with the right shape, but it is pretty unusual to double 1 without 4 cards in hearts and without a clear rebidding.

Therefore, I would assume that pard is 99% with 4 hearts.

2nd BTW  : the game is MP - not IMP. I ticked the wrong line.

Pass. I've bid the entire value of my hand. No guarantee that it is our hand. Maybe partner has made a light double others didn't make and many played at 2S. Maybe our action kept them from game. Regardless, I've told my story and I'm sticking to it. ;)

I doubled again (and this is clearly an action double): at MP, it pays to be somehow aggressive. As I expected, W did not have her bid, but was simply in love with her spades. Pard was minimum and balanced: again the bidding had shown (or at least hinted) to this.

The contract was set by 2 tricks, which means that there was some breathing space, and we were not really hanging from a cliff with our nails.

3 makes, btw.

Kalvan, how does 3 make (without some error by the defense)? The defense against 3 is really easy playing Obvious Shift. Q lead, 10 by West asking for a shift. Declarer must duck. Now 3 rounds of spades tapping the closed hand - good luck making 9 tricks.

I don't think it can be made even with 3 rounds of spades initially.

Nice defense against 3 by the way. I think you were fortunate that declarer didn't have the 7th spade as advertised.
