I voted for 2, but it really depends on who partner is. Playing with Elianna I'd pass, because I've seen the junk she overcalls 2 over 1 with. But opposite most players (including someone who bids like me) I think 2 is in order.

I bid 2 as well, which I thought was 100%. I had a kibitzer mention that he thought I should pass, but he was looking at partner's crud: xx Tx AQJx A97xx, and he admitted he was biased.

So I guess this was just a reality check of sorts :P

Granted I see these types of 2club overcalls all the time on BBO. Is this really a standard overcall in this situation?

Hi everyone

Assuming partner is cold sober, 2H is automatic.

If partner bids on crud, pass is in order. The conditions were listed as IMPs.

Note to self, find another partner ASAP 'if' they overcall 2Cs on crud.

Rubens advances are not standard.

I do think that playing Precision type 2C methods is possible but not the best

method to respond to a 2C overcall at IMPs.

A 2C overcall should have slightly better values than a Precision type 2C opening

as a minimum and something like a King more as a possible top holding.

I play a Big Club system with a 2C Precision type(promises 6+ Cs) opening.

Regards,

Robert

"BTW, with my pard we respond to pard's 2C overcall as if hehad opened a Precision 2C (e.g. 2M inv Nonforcing, 2D Staymanic relay).

Any opinion on this ?"

Interesting. How does it work for you? How do you show a good hand with a 5cM?

Peter

Probably bidding 2, and then the 5cM (forcing). It is an interesting approach, though

Oh I won't be dumping this pard anythime soon. We've played on here since almost the beginning of BBO. He has his good days and bad days (who doesn't).

I agree - this overcall flat sucks.

FWIW I'm no expert, as I have said before, but I disagree. 2 has an advantage over 1 in as much as it preempts the entire 1-level. I don't think any more strength is required than for a precision 2 opening. In fact, my only problem with such a treatment is that a 2 overcall of 1 may turn out to be weaker than a typical 2 opening in precision. I would be quite happy to overcall 1 with x xxx QJx AKxxxx. That's just an example hand, and it may be that you would open a precision 2 with this, but I would not.

Partner must have thought he was playing matchpoints - although there are a couple of situations where you should slightly stretch to overcall: 1C-1S and 1D-2C, the emphasis is on the slightly and not the stretch.

I like to play a new suit by advancer after partner's 2/1 overcall like basic 10+ bridge, i.e., advancer's bid is forcing for 1 round. However, this method is unplayable unless you can count on solid overcalls, especially in the minors.
