mink
Hi, sometimes tourney hosts like to wait for more players to join and therefore set the start time of a tourney to a time some minutes later. I don't like this, but it is ok with me, as I can cancel my registration if the new time is not suitable for me. But in 2 tourneys recently I had the impression that the tourney started a few minutes before the time it was originally scheduled. Both times I was taken away from a main bridge club table while playing a board that I expected to finish before the tourney starts - I do not like to leave opps with an unfinished board, so I try to finish playing before the tourney starts. And it might easily happen that I do some things away from the computer and when I return I find the tourney already started and the other players waiting for me. Therefore I suggest that the software does not allow to re-schedule a tourney to a time earlier than it was originally scheduled. If a host likes to do this for a tourney where only few players registered yet, he can send a bbo-mail to all of these players, delete the original tourney and schedule a new one. uday
Hmm - I dont know if i I like it; registrations would be lost, and that is a possibly greater inconvenience. Maybe the server should notify all (online) registered pairs of the time change, though. Once the official version of 3.4.12 is released (in the hands of our yellows now for final testing) we'l start the next version, this one focussing on Tourney/Private club issues. inquiry
I guess I don't mind a tournment time changing from say 9:30 to 9:35 or 9:40 (for instance), but I am not very happy when it changes by 20 or 30 minutes. One I signed up for one night was rescheduled three times, adding 7 minutes, then 10, then 5. The reason? Some people playing in a team match wanted to play and so the director kept delaying start to allow them to finish and play. I suspect this is alright in general... a pause to let one tournment finish and be able to join, but after the third time change, I removed my registration. Who knows, it might have gotten more time added again. And all this without any obvious notification as to why the time kept changing (I found out why later). Shifting to an earlier time makes some sense if the event is full (say limited to 80 players and 80 are registered and all are on line). But only in terms of a few mintues. Sometimes I register and then, while staying on line, I wonder off to the kitchen or somewhere else, planning on returning to the computer prior to the start of the event. If it was to start more than 10 minutes early I could miss the entire first round. Ben
