chaos in subbing

Great confusion. When I have subbed, one of two things has happened. I play out the session, or the director replaces me with the original player. I just encountered a third option.

 

 

I can't seem to get the 6:30 starting time (ACBL Pairs) planted in my head so I showed up a little before 7 to find the game in motion. I listed as a sub and almost immediately found myself playing board 4 (three board rnds) . As the hand ended, my partner said his original partner had returned. But we had started in on board 5, and completed it while summoning the director. By the end of board 5, I was still there and the director had, I think, gone. Pard had no complaints about me but of course hoped to have his original pard back since she was online. Lho suggested that if I left, my pard could summon his orig pard as a sub. I couldn't see how to leave so I signed off of BBO. After an interval, maybe 4 minutes give or take, I logged back on to BBO and found myself automatically returned to the same table where the auction had begun, up to me for a first call. Time was running out so we decided I would play, but then I was zapped out. I assume by the director returning the original pard.

 

OK, I know it sounds too involved to deal with. Let me pose one concrete question:

 

Assume I wish to surrender my seat to the original player but director hasn't moved me out (handling another problem I assume). Will it work for me to surrender the seat and then can the original player get back w/o the director's intervention?

 

As far as I know there were no hard feelings on anyone's part, we were simply trying to cope and were not sure of our ground.

 

Suggestions are welcome. Probably this is not that common an occurrence.

Sounds like the issue is simply wanting to give up your seat (in this case, to the returning player)

 

Once in a tourney, you cannot surrender your seat.

 

You can click the Director! button and summon the TD, who will replace you with the original player. Or you can log off and stay logged off for a few minutes to give the TD a chance to replace you.
