Echognome
[hv=d=e&v=n&n=sa5hakqj73daqjckj&s=st986432h84d93c62]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Will any South's open with a spade preempt? At these colours I didn't think they would and no one did. I can imagine that at favourable we might have gotten one or two people to open a weak 2♠. But, not here. After East and South pass, West opens 1♣ and North will start with a takeout double, intending to show a powerhouse with a good heart suit. South bids spades and wants out of this auction. Most Norths will drive towards game. West remains silent in the auction until NS reach 3NT or higher and then West starts doubling everything in sight. 3NT is the best game, but it's tough to reach. Guest Jlall
Over 1C, I started with a X. My pard bid 1S, and I was worried about a semi-psyche in 3rd seat white/red so I didn't just jump to 3N. Obviously I know 3N will be cold, but I wasn't ready to give up on slam. I cuebid 2C, and over 2S I gave up on slam and just jumped to 3N. I was worried he might pull to 4S as I had shown some interest in non 3N contracts but Josh did well and passed. Then they Xed, and I XXed as I can basically claim on a strip squeeze, and I didn't want pard to consider running.

hrothgar
We had an interesting auction Free chose to pass in first seat, which I heartily approve of..After Free's pass and the 1♣ opening, I had an interest choice available. Playing MOSCITO, passes are very revealing. Accordingly, I considered giving up on slam and bidding an immediate 3NT. I still think that this might have been the best bid. Regardless, I chose to double, and after Free bid 1♠, I showed my hearts and then selected 3N P - (1♣) - X - (P)1♠ - (P) - 2♥ - (P)2♠ - (P) - 3N - (P)4♠ - (X) - XX - (P)5♥ - (X) Free decided to correct to 4♠, figuring that his hand was worth a bit more in a Spade contract than in NT. While I agree with his judgement, this had the unfortunate effect of removing us from out best contract. Where life got interesting was when West doubled 4♠. I redoubled...Free thought that this should be SOS. I assumed that it should be business.Curious what the peanut gallery thinks.
han
Our auction was: (1C)-Dbl-(p)-1S(p)-2C-(p)-2S(p)-3NT-(p)-4S(Dbl)-all pass. Another undiscussed auction, these were difficult hands Matt! I assumed that the cuebid followed by 3NT showed doubt about strain, and that Ben would have bid 3NT directly over 1S with a hand that wanted to play there. We didn't discuss the hand afterwards, but I think that Ben bid 2C because he was still interested in slam, and decided to give up on slam over my 2S bid. Very subtle hand. inquiry
Right Hannie was, I had not given up on slam when I cue-bid 2♣. Diamond King and club ACE will be right if I need them, so is some remote slam chances. I considered rebidding 3♣ and then over 3♠ bid 3NT, but thought the risk of parnter correcting to 4♠ if I cue-bid again, too high. I was a little surprised to hear 4♠, as like Justin, I thought this auction was "this is where I want to be".. but with 7♠ and nothing else useful, 4♠ is understandable. I too would ahve redoubled had they doubled, as I think (hope_ there are 9 tricks opposite dirt and long spades here.
