Enough to act over a weak two?

I hate this problem. :P Already I've broken tempo. My hand is deceptive in that despite its shape it is more defensive than offensive in nature - the two aces are tricks and the spade K is more useful as a defensive card to build a trick. But at the same time, in partner's hand two key cards and a fit could produce a game.

Overall, you don't get rich letting the opponents push you around in the bidding so I'm bidding 3D - if I get a chance to bid clubs at the 4 level I'll do that, but if LHO jump to 4H and it is passed back to me I'll try to beat it - I don't want to get pushed around at the lower levels but I also have to keep my wits and not be pushed into an expensive phantom save. Unless partner can show a big fit my hand is useful for defending - so that is what I do.

3 ; feel it's too easy to get robbed passing here. Willing to accept that 3 will sometimes lead to a bad result.

:P Do you play 3 as nonforcing? If so, then 3. Otherwise, pass.

The spade king is a huge negative in terms of our trying to buy the hand. Put that king over in the club or diamond suit, and you have (almost) a strong two bid opening. The opponents clearly have the spade suit with the ability to take 8-10 tricks there. The 2 opener has disrupted their auction already, and if I can bid 3 w/o worrying about pard getting serious, I am happy to do so. Otherwise, I only hope pard's weak two did enough damage.

I think I could pass in tempo with this hand, but if not, then 3, even forcing, is a bid that can win. I would prefer it to a slow pass.

Pass but I dont feel too strongly about it. Pard is a passed hand, so our chances of making game are pretty nil. I'll just assume fight for 6 tricks against hearts when pard has a stack than 9 tricks in a minor.

It's not that hard to construct hands for parnter where even slam is a good prospect [ok, I don't expect to get to slam here - just playing the devil's advocate].

Hi beatrix45

Partner did not open 2Hs. The (2H) bid in 'brackets' shows that this bid was by the other pair.

Hi everyone

I bid 3D here, the partner 'short' in the enemy suit should try to bid. I have somewhat light values, however, I do have a lot of shape.

I agree with Jlall here, if partner bids 3NT, I am also pulling. I started this auction by bidding 3Ds on shape and I will continue with a 4C bid to show extreme shape over a 3NT bid.

If you do not go for an occasion -800 you are not bidding often enough.

Regards,

Robert

I think this one is pretty close. I hate selling out to 2 here, but preemptor's partner may well raise rather than thinking he will get away with playing a 9/10 card fit at the 2 level. If you bid 3 you are very likely to hear 3NT from partner, which I think you should pull...but there is a case for saying that should be GFing now.

At the table, my LHO held this hand and bid 3. My RHO bid 3N on xxxx KQT9x Qx Qx, Lefty pulled to 4 and righty corrected to 4, which goes at least 2 off. 2 would have been pretty marginal.

I am not sure whether we should pull pard's 3NT here.
