Michele13
Wish there was a button available - especially during tourneys - that would prevent dummy from talking. This is especially annoying in individual tourneys when partners do not know each other and a motormouth is dummy....no matter how many times one says it...it does not seem to work....wishful thinking

Gerben42
Imagine you are dummy and you see everything is high and everyone just keeps playing. Wouldn't you want partner to claim PLEASE and get on with the next hand? Of course if it would not be appropriate to claim at this point the dummy should be hit with the Hot Pointy Stick of Procedural Penalties. luke warm
it's true that online is different in that dummy can see all the cards.. i still think dummy should be dummy...
pigpenz
very true, maybe turn off all room chat during play. In fact maybe turn of all roomchat except for private chat at end of round...its the chat that gets people in trouble rudeness and other things. I always hate those "vwpp" when someone led the wrong suit or even when declarer misplayed but still made the contract.
fred
I don't like this idea. For a lot (most?) of our members the social experience is at least as important as the bridge experience. I would not want to take this away from them in an attempt to stop what is hopefully a small % of our members from misbehaving. Besides that, there are situations in which is appropriate (or at least acceptable) for the dummy to chat. In "real life" bridge the players are not prevented from talking at the table. If a player says something rude or inappropriate, the TD can deal with it. I don't see any reason why the same basic idea should not apply to online bridge. If you run into a rude dummy in the Main Bridge Club, mark him as an enemy and avoid him in the future. If you run into such a person in a tournament, call the TD. If the TD is not able to deal with this effectively then don't play in that TD's tournaments anymore. This is a social problem, not a software problem. People who abuse their right to chat need to be educated. Those that cannot be educated should be prevented from playing. Preventing everyone from chatting in order to avoid dealing with the (hopefully) few people who are incapable of polite and bridge-lawful behavior is not a good solution (in my opinion). Trumpace
it's true that online is different in that dummy can see all the cards.. i still think dummy should be dummy... You know, people have the option to turn off seeing opponents cards when they are dummy. Some ppl use that. I think it extremely rude to keep playing instead of claiming when all you have left is AKQJT of trumps. I have seen this happen many times. It gets more annoying when your partner has advertised 'Advanced' or better. I usually tell partner at the end of the hand that there is a claim button which they can use, which some ppl are unaware of. When someone says claim pls, it need not be the case that they are being jerks, it could be that the declarer has been one.

I didn't accuse you of calling them jerks... It is just that they might have a valid reason to talk, which should be kept in mind, thats all. If they are talking while you are declarer... that is a different matter  In face to face social games, talking at the end of the hand is OK, as some time is spent shuffling and dealing out the cards for the next deal. In online games, the cards for the next deal are dealt immediately and there is no time to talk! I guess some dummies like to make use of their idle time, and we should expect some dummy chatter...
