andych
Please note that Chinese traditional and Chinese simplified are 2 different language setting, unlike English US and English UK. Currently BBO has only Chinese simlified translation. In my Chinese traditional PC, BBO default my language to Chinese. The login window is displayed as Chinese simplified which my PC displays rubbish characters. Please help. :)

I mean for BEFORE logging in, the login window (play online/open file on disk/exit) where we type the login name and password is wrong, it displays in rubbish character (which is supposed to be actually simplified chinese). After logging in I could see English which is my setting. I could change windows Regional and Language options -> advanced, and set it to simplified chinese. Login windows would then be presented in simplified chinese correctly. But it affects other non BBO programs. :P :D
fred
BBO will remember your language settings. If you use the Options dialog to change your language to English and then log out, the next time you log in you should see English in the login dialog. If more than one user ID logs in from the PC you are using, you will have to do this for each ID. When you launch BBO the settings will default to those of the person who logged in most recently. Fred GitelmanBridge Base Inc.www.bridgebase.com Thx Fred!!! No.... not the case for for the login dialog. If you are saying that the preference is kept per user, I have not login yet so that BBO doesnt kow. If you are saying that it is kept locally, whihc file could I take a look? Unless there are many files, one for each individual user? *** BTW if you have time, ignore this question and please look at a problem in Advanced/Expert class posted by Jlall - it came to me in a dream, million thx *********
fred
If you are saying that it is kept locally, whihc file could I take a look? Unless there are many files, one for each individual user? Look in the profiles folder (a sub-folder of the folder that you selected when you installed BBO - default is c:\bridge base online). You can open the .ini files in this folder using Notepad or any other text editor. Search for LANGUAGE. However, editing these files is not a good way to deal with this problem. I understand that it may not work the first time you run BBO on a given PC, but you should still be able to log in and change the language to English. English will then appear in the login dialog when you run the program in the future (unless another user ID that did not change the setting was the most recent ID to log in from that PC). rwylee
I think after you choose English as the language, then click APPLY, it will be okay. BTW, I know there is someone who can provide Traditional Chinese Edition of BBO, I cannot remember his name though, he is from Taiwan. BTW, I think BBO is hate-free zone, please do not call other language rubbish only because you cannot read it, thanks!

BTW, I think BBO is hate-free zone, please do not call other language rubbish only because you cannot read it, thanks! We welcome the translation of BBO to any and all languages. If your friend (or anyone else) has the time and inclination to work on a traditional Chinese translation, please have him/her contact me (fred@bridgebase.com). I am not sure if your last paragraph was serious or not, but Andy's posts were not meant as insults. What he is seeing is characters that are not Chinese characters (or characters from any other language for that matter). He was not trying to say that any particular language was rubbish - he was saying that was that there were characters on his screen (in the login dialog in particular) that would not make any sense to anyone regardless of what language they spoke. andych
It is farthest away from my meaning to say any language is rubbish.Sorry if you are mislead.I am a Chinese too (hong kong).
andych
Checked the ini file. Having languag = 09. Is 09 English? The login screen is shown in 'simplified chinese'.... What I see the login screen BTW how to post a picture? B) :)
geller
Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese have the same language code (0x04) but they have separate sublanguage codes (0x0804) vs. (0x0404) so maybe it would be possible for BBO to support both character sets (someone using the traditional char set might have to do a new translation. If there was enough demand it ought to be technically possible to do this, provided that each user's machine can tell apps which sublanguage is being used. Does anyone here know whether the sublanguage code is readily accessible to apps?
uday
It is accessible , and no doubt we will someday support traditional Chinese

Then exit BBO completely. Then launch BBO again. Hopefully you will then see English in the login dialog.
