Gerben42
Hard to imagine partner having anything in this auction. Looks like I should hope responder has only 3♥ or partner having ♥Jxxx, either way they only have 2♦ 5♣ and 3♥ is 10. If I now cash ♠AK they will have an 11th in the form of ♠Q so I will win and return a ♣ and patiently wait for my 3rd trick! Blofeld
I will be a terrible optimist here, and play for them to go down. Which means hoping that partner has a second spade and a heart honour, and ducking the first trick.
Fluffy
is 2/4 is standard I would duck at imps
cinvent77
Ducking the first trick is the only way to defeat this contract. That seems to be best at imps as it can only cost an overtrick. At matchpoints I am willing to give up on setting the contract in order to keep them to 10 tricks (or 9 if partner does have a heart honor). Gerben's solution seems all right: rise with the ace and return a club.
mikeh
[HIDDEN]I also win the 1st trick, but with the K, not the Ace: the A may fool partner but not declarer. I also return the passive ♣. What no-one else has commented on is how I plan to discard when declarer cashes 5♣ and 3♥ ending in his hand. I must reduce to 4 cards while dummy comes down to AKxx♦ and declarer to Q♠ and some unknown ♦ holding. If he holds the ♦J, I can be thrown in with my stiff ♠ honour if I have kept Qxx ♦. So I am going to play declarer for either doubleton ♦ or no more than 3 cards in the suit, lacking the Jack: I am going to pitch a small ♦. When I pitch it depends on my opinion of declarer and my opinion of his opinion of me B) If he is good, an early pitch will make him suspicious unless he thinks I am weak, etc.
