Almost every south will open 1. Those that playing a forcing NT might have a difficult time on this board after south bids 2 (better minor). The danger of showing the hearts, is that it will often show a 6 card suit and 2 might be a better contract with 2 card support (when south could have 0 or 1 hearts). However the modern game leads to modern gadgets and some will find 2, which is the best contract.

Many will respond with a non-forcing 1NT and that's where they will play. At imps, it's certainly a good contract and will make.

Simple boring auction

Dealer bids 1 (showing 4+ Spades)

Responder bids 1NT, showing a balanced hand

In theory, responder could have chosen a natural and non-forcing 2 response, but I prefer to describe the balanced nature of the hand...

1S-1NT

Pass

As noted on Board 7 our 2 response to a major includes all the “strong” versions of found in standard forcing 1NT and our jump shifts to 1 show invitational hands with suit bid. So our 1NT is only “semi-forcing”. Opener with balanced hand, weak five card suit, spread values in the other suit, frequently will pass. This is what happened here. 2 is a good contract, but 1NT is a fair one too.

What are the chances of 1 loser with xxx opposite AJ9? (asuming opponent will be good enough to duck with KQx)

Well, unless you know they aren't good enough to go up with the K/Q from KTx/QTx, you couldn't take advantage of the mistake of going up with KQx...

To answer your question: s.th. like 37%.

I would had played 3 after BART:

1-1NT

2-2

2-3

What are the chances of 1 loser with xxx opposite AJ9? (asuming opponent will be good enough to duck with KQx)

In the version of BART I know 2h only promised 2+h not 3hearts but does deny a good enough hand to bid 3h directly over 2d. Not sure why Fluffy raises 2h to 3h with that responder hand. Perhaps a different version of BART?
