dogsbreath
Hi again..My live p is a good lady player who is heavily involved in teaching and coaching bridge here in N.Ireland .. so we often play in 'minor' local tourneys to keep her name in the public eye, as well as for much needed table-time... a rare free Sunday finds us amidst a keen but undistinguished field at the 'North Down Pairs' recently..I am not well focused for this event, but apart from re-doubling my p on the first board we have started well..Then, against an elderly couple this incident... LHO: 1♥ ... P: 1♠ ... RHO: 2♥..... ..i have nice 10 count with 3-card Spades and stiff H .. so my call is 3♥ ...LHO calls the TD ! I immediately assume I have committed some atrocity but a review of the auction seems to deny that.. noone bid out of turn, no insufficient bids, and my p has alerted the 3♥ bid... TD arrives .. TD: 'what is the problem' LHO: 'he bid 3♥' ..TD reviews the auction .. looks puzzled..TD: ' so?' LHO: ' but I wanted to bid 3♥' !! TD assures LHO that no infringement has occurred and after some further discussion the auction proceeds LHO: Pass .. P: 4♠ ..all pass, making. But our opponents are NOT amused .. we hear them discussing this outrage at the next table and their ops agreeing with them .. we are now regarded as some sort of bandit professionals coming down from the big smoke to swindle the locals! Rgds Dog. :)

Robert
Hello everyone Do you already own a parrot? You could have it ride on your shoulder while you smoke a long cigar. You should also wear several pistols plus a cutlass. Pirates! Stealing from the innocent with their unholy use of cuebids. :D Regards, Robert
Free
A funny one from yesterday: We play MOSCITO against a beginner pair. Almost nobody in Belgium uses convention cards, but we have one (obviously). The bidding starts p-1♥(=4+♠)-p-2NT... My RHO asks my p what it means, and he says "invitational with at least a 4 card ♠ support". RHO asks how many 'points' and partner makes up a range which should be accurate enough, because they really want to know 'points'. The bidding continues to 4♠, I tell opps before the lead that I could be stronger than my partner suggested. Then they started discussing that they were in disadvantage (dunno why) and said "it would be useful if you had a little card with what you play". I throw my cc in front of his face saying "here you go", where upon he replies "yes, but that's too complicated". Tsss :D

Tsss :D Great storyFree Late last night team game, 2h on my left, no alert, ask for cc, none, I ask and am told 5-5 weak.I ask which suits are you 5-5, no response. Finally am told "no clubs". Of course LHO is 5-5 in hearts and clubs not "no clubs" :). Oh well next hand.
Echognome
Playing in Ireland at Drogheda congress, you hold a 3-3-4-3 yarborough. The auction goes: 1♥ - (P) - P - (2♥)P - (3♣) - P - (3♥)P - ? You are playing 5 card majors and a strong NT. 2♥ wasn't alerted. RHO asks you "is 1♥ a psyche?" After being taken aback by the question, you say "I have no idea." "Are you a regular partnership?" "We play together maybe once or twice a month." "Yeah." "Does your partner psyche often?" "No. He psyches very seldom." Passed out. Partner asks what 2♥ is before his lead. A bit upset, RHO replies "Strong hand with first round control in hearts." "I only asked because it wasn't alerted." "Well, I didn't think I needed to alert, because everyone plays it that way." So partner leads and they play in their 4-1 fit. We somehow managed a top. Fluffy
I remember playing against 2 beginners, I doubled their 3♦ bid. LHO opponent asked if the double would still apply if she bid 4♦. My partner quickly replied thatn no, it didn't apply. So she bid 4♦ and mympartner obviously doubled. Her partner made with overtrick
Free
Against another beginner pair... You play a few tricks, and when it becomes important you ask your LHO how they lead. He says "I don't know what she lead" where upon you obviously state that you're not interested in WHAT she lead, but in HOW they lead. LHO now turns his first card around saying "it was a club"
