This is an extrememly dangerous auction to enter in the minor - even more so as a passed hand. The NT bidder either has clubs or diamonds. What kind of hands make any sense to pass and bid 2C?

Kx, xxx, xx, KQJ10xx

A hand similar to this is the only thing that makes sense to me. In 3C, we'll be losing 2 diamonds, 2/3 hearts and a spade. We've moved them out of the higher scoring NT and partner has told me what to lead.

I pass. I don't have the shape or cards to really compete any higher and I don't want to punish partner for helping me find the right lead.

makes sense to me

I have soft values, many losers

p is a passed hand

p took a big risk, and this included playing me for certain values (fortunately, I have them, but no more). we have maybe 1/2 the deck, but not a really good fit.

I would have bid on the previous round (probably 2D, but 3C also OK).

I would have too if partner was not a passed hand, but I don't think so opposite a passed hand. Is the reason to bid just that it is unlikely the opps will sell out to 2C and you may find a major suit fit with 2D?

very surprising, can you pls explain ?

Im not even sure 2 isnt natural, same as im not sure a double now isnt penalty. might depnd on whather they play inverted or not cause if not then 2D show only 3 diamonds, while if playing inverted it would show 4D

Sorry - I did not see that partner was a passed hand. Seemed like everyone was going crazy, but I see now that it was me :)

Still reasonable to do something on the first round, but hard to be too critical of the pass now.

Having passed, I would not sell out to 2D. If I knew my partner would understand double now as "takeout" then I have a perfect hand for that. Otherwise I would compete to 3C.

Unless my partnership had a specific rule like "all undiscussed low level doubles are for takeout", I would not put my partner in the position of having to guess what my double meant.
