bearmum
as it happened, dummy had ♠Txxx ♥KQx ♦Qxx ♣Kxx. Declarer lost a club, a heart and 2 diamonds. Draw your own conclusions :D The conclusion is that: 1) the jump to 3S would have avoided altogether the problem2) pard does not have a penalty double.[/quote ]INTERESTING (this is after I voted to PASS the X for sake of partnership harmony) and after reading this post :P I DISAGREE with the first comment that 'jump to 3♠ would have avoided the problem' BECAUSE I assume P can bid 1♠ with only 4 of them :P ?? 1. I have shown 5♥ and 4♠ AND less than 16 points (like NOT a forcing bid at my second chance?) 2. PARD has shown 6+ points and initally ONLY 4♠ right?? :P 3. AFTER I show 4 card ♠ support --Partner decides to DOUBLE for penalty NOT bid 3♠?? 4. WHY SHOULD I bid again on what I have in MY hand --- MAYBE partner should NOT double for penalties UNLESS he/she has REALLY GREAT cards in trump suit ?? BUT that's another discussion I have to have with partner -- but NOT specific to THIS hand :D
adf
Pass seems clear with three tricks in my own hand. The void is not a problem for me, as partner probably expects it. In a situation where avoiding disaster was paramount (e.g., a short match against a weak team), I might pull, but even then I'd go for 3♦. HeartA
2S is one of the grossest underbids I've seen. That being said, I am glad I did it because I will confidently pass this X. I trust my partner, and when he Xs them after they have bid and raised a suit, he has trumps. I have AK A in the suit we did not bid and raise, and I will happily pass. I expect a big number, and consider a pull here an insult. Totally agree.
Al_U_Card
Partner's bid screams that he has both 4 poor spades and 4 or more goodish clubs. I'd expect this hand. 9xxxKxxxxAQ9x Pass and expect to beat it 2 tricks. Boy, do I ever agree with this assessment (just less than an invitational hand with good trump tricks) pass and expect a good result.
