kenrexford
I had a funny hand come up with the LOL's this afternoon. 3NT contract. Dummy held AKQx-10x-xxx-AKQx. I held xx-KQ98x-J10x-xxx. In practice, I received a spade lead and hopped Ace. I next "finessed" a diamond into the Ace and won the spade return. Now, the 10 of hearts was floated to the Ace, spade back. I finessed hearts again, ran the hearts. Someone pitched a club in the end position, so we scored up +660. Funny, eh? This reminded me, however, of the best "attack their suit" play I've ever seen. My partner at the time, Ernie Humbert (not sure where he lives now--used to be Michigan) attacked their suit with xxx in dummy and 10x in hand. His RHO, with KJxx, of course ducked (second hand low). When Ernie stuck in the 10, his LHO, holding AQxx, decided to give Ernie a false sense of security and ducked also, hoping for the repeat finesse. ;-) After thinking this through, I was rather upset to realize that I could only estimate this as Average Plus, because someone might duck my diamond finesse rather than blow an entry needed to get in and run the spades, after all...
