Random idea

Lets say a 4th seat weak 2 shows 11-15 (roughly) and a 6 bagger.

What would 1 major - 1x - 2 major mean? Has anyone considered the differentiations in these two auctions? Seems there should be something - maybe the slower auction shows a poor suit.

That is possible.

Another idea is 2h or 2s shows one suited hand in fourth seat.

Now you can have 1Major=something=2Major show 6-4(minor) with the 4 card minor suit being "weakish"

I would never open 2M in fourth with a 15 count: not even a good 14. That is too much range in playing strength for a 2-level opener. I play 2M as 10-bad 13.

This allows 1M 2M to be good 13-terrible 16, with great 15's and good 16's being shown by 1M 3M, as if in 1st or 2nd.

The wide range aproach makes responder's valuation difficult: if he has to cater to 15 counts, he must commit to the 3-level to investigate game and that may be too high on minimums. And, of course, the wider the range for space-consuming actions, the more guesswork becomes involved. I prefer to minimize guesswork on constructive sequences.

BTW, to play 2M as 12-14 and 1M 2M as 15-17 means that you must pass in 4th seat with KJ10xxx AKx xx xx (nah, you'd upgrade, so make it QJ10xxx AKx xx xx) and I cannot believe that passing this hand is winning bridge in the long run.

If you open in 4th and declare it,you have to make for it to pay (you could have passed. There is also a difference between hts and spades. With spades you are supposed to get into an auction with 5 or 6 spades with as little as 8 or 9 points. But if you have that little maybe one spade hedges your bet even with 6 spades. But if partner then bids 1nt forcing you would have to bid 2s (you wouldn't pass 1n with 9pts and 6 spades or would you?). Well basically I open 2M in 4th with 12-14Hcp and 6M instead of 1M-2M when I think there is no game opposite partners 11hcp with an outside 5card suit .Stuart

Perhaps I like strong two at 4th position.
