Auction: 1-(2)-2-(3)

-4-(5)-X-ap[/hv]

Note: E/W were a pickup partnership while I was South playing with a semi-regular partner.

So, first of all, {be}rate the auction. I mainly wonder about 4 and 5. Funnily enough, I bid 4 mainly with the intention of preempting the auction. It doesn't rate to be pretty, but I figured this was going to 4 anyway so the best chance to play 4 undoubled was to bid it immediately.

Second, had I held the West hand, I would have bid 2. If this had occurred at the table, how would your auction go from there...(2)-?-?-?

My vote goes to 3-(4)-4. The principle thing I wish to know is if you are South, after 1-2-3-4- what would you do?

Thanks for this post Rebound. This really explains much of the bidding I see on BBO and what the heck people are thinking when they make their bids. :).

No wonder I could never figure out how the heck people are getting to these auctions. Now I know eveyone is trying to steal and not get doubled :).

Mike, I think your sarcasm is misplaced here. With so much shape, you will bid 4 over 4 anyway, so I think it is better to bid it immediately and make them guess. As a bonus, it may well make.

I like the auction up to 4. If West bids on, my choice would be 5. I am not sure what I would do, actually.

I was serious, not joking. As I said I would not have found most of these bids at the table. I am glad Rebound posted this so I can see the thought process of most of the BBO players and forum posters who do bid like this.

2h=no prefer pass

2s=no prefer 3s weak

3h=no prefer 3d

4s=no never thought of trying to steal vul vs nv against a game that I am not sure will make.

5h=no again never entered my mind

2s=Michaels over 1s=no again and bidding 4h after michaels 1s=2s=3s=4h again no.

Rebound's bidding may very well be winning bridge but almost all of these bids never entered my thought process. Rebound certainly won this hand big. Again thanks for posting. I would love to see more "over the shoulder" bidding and play problems.

I never doubted your seriousness, however, I am interested in the reasoning behind some of your choices. For example, regarding the West hand, I feel applying the expression 5-5 come alive is apt. Whether you feel the hand is too good for micheals and choose 2 instead, I feel a call of some kind is appropriate. Why pass?

Regarding partner's 2 call over 2, I agree 3 is better, incidentally, but you seem to forget I am not responsible for any calls other than 1 and 4. My second question also had little to do with whether you agree with the early part of the auction. It was, were the auction to go 1-2-3-4 to you what would you do?

4S is a good 2 way shot. Either a save or a make, often they can't X you, etc. You're probably bidding it over 4H anyways.

5H is pretty reasonable, but I think I would pass and hope to beat you. If pard has a club fit though it could be a big winner. Still, I don't like phantoms.

2H is ok with me, 2S would be ok too (at this vulnerability). Don't really care either way, but 2H is my style.
