Echognome
Luckily this one was a headache for the opponents, not us. [hv=d=w&v=n&s=sq62haqt82dq74caj]133|100|Scoring: MP(2♠*) - P - (P) - ?[/hv] *3-7 hcp, 4+ spades, and 4+ minor at least 9 cards between the suits. All the bids are in tempo. Your call? Guest Jlall
2N. These Qxx's seem better for NT, and since RHO didn't raise spades im not too worried about them running the suit (though it's possible), and this limits my hand better than 3H. tysen2k
2NT even though we might miss a heart fit. 3♥ is too unilateral if partner doesn't have support. Tysen
mikeh
2N Recent posts are beginning to show a theme: when 4th seat has a big hand after a 1st seat preempt, notrump is usually a good choice if at all logical. I appreciate that these notrump bids often seem to fly in the face of what we learn from books and (to some degree) other experienced players: but amongst topflight experts (I am not putting myself in that category) it is a common practice as anyone who subscribes to the Bridge World (which in my somewhat limited reading, is the best magazine around for good bridge discussions) will know. NT often affords more of that dreaded word 'flexibility': and (perhaps the same thing) caters to more possible outcomes. Picture this holding of Qxx as dummy in 3N if partner holds Kx, amongst other possibilities. Even missing a 9 card ♥ fit need not be fatal: picture partner with Jxx or Kxx and LHO with AKxxxx or Axxxxx and a minor entry: you may well have 3N making when 4♥ fails. Trpltrbl
2N, balanced 15-17, roughly, and stopper.Gotta like that concept to make the bid that shows your hand. GBB
whereagles
2NT, balanced 12-16, roughly, with or without stopper :)
Free
2NT or 3♥. I'd go for 2NT to get a decent lead, and we can still find a 5-3 ♥ or ♠ fit :)
Echognome
Ok. Here's your follow-up. It goes (2♠) - P - (P) - 2NT(P) - P - (X) - ? Hold your ground or bid hearts?
han
Agree with 2NT, now I run.
Chamaco
Does anyone use here runout schemes similar to weak NT doubled ? Something like, more or less:...XX = I have a 5 bagger...3X = lowest of 2 touching suits...Pass, forcing, responder bids with a 5 bagger else redoubles and the 2NT bidder bids the lower of nontouching. Trpltrbl
I pass. But previous post said something very good about using runouts here. I will have to take closer look at this. GBB ;)
Echognome
Our bidder ran to 3♥ which was doubled for 500. Any action other than pass leads to 500 or worse. A bit unlucky I admit. Your RHO (me) has a good hand but no good fit, so was just waiting to pounce. Sometimes preempts work.
Fluffy
3♥ to me, didn't even think of 2NT actually.
Codo
Even knowing the result would never let me pass.I had bid 3 ♥, but after this posting, I am more or less convinced, that 2 NT is the better bid, (16-18). Good pres sometimes work :)
Kalvan14
2N, it is the most descriptive bid. and after E double, I would not run. Let pard decide: I have my bid, and my hearts are nothing to write home about.
