West opens 1 and not surprisingly both North and East pass

You double and partner bids 2 (0-poor 7pts).

You ask for aces and find partner has 1 Ace and if u ask for kings no kings.

As it's duplicate pairs what do u rebid and why?

I thought post hand that 7 is not a bad bid as it it/was likely that losing spades can be thrown on the diamonds ?

Also if partner had shown no aces do u still bid 6 and if so what would be the rationale to not bid 7 if they show 1?

I'm voting 7H, because given that partner has an ace, he's unlikely to be bidding a 3 card suit. If partner has:

xxx

xxxx

xxxx

Ax

then I'll be unlucky, although it has pseudo squeeze chances if he leads a top spade, since LHO is marked with almost everything else. However, I've got no way to be sure how many diamonds partner has.

I wasn't going to ask for kings, since that would mean LHO had opened on

KQ of spades and

J of diamonds

QJ of clubs

which seems unlikely in 1st seat.

7. We have a maximum of 12 tricks in NT unless partner has 6 hearts (unlikely) or 5 hearts and J (possible). Then there is a black squeeze against West. However, 7NT would be too much of a gamble, so I will settle for the heart grand. It may not even be lay down.

By the way, I don't agree that your partner's 2 shows 0-7 or the like. Up to 11(12) rather after a double in the balancing seat. Partner must remember to deduct the ace (some say king) you "stole" when you re-opened.

Most people play a balancing double as just 8+ hcp.
