mikeh
MikeH. Are you sure you are Canadian? I gave this hand to 10 Canadian pairs and 12 of them bid 4S while 2 others got to the slam. :P WinstonMost Canadians live in places where the winter temperature freezes their brains. I live in paradise (Vancouver was recently said to the the best city in the world, in terms of livability, and Victoria is far, far better than Vancouver). My brain freezes only occasionally. I suspect that this is the difference between me and the others you polled. If the other pairs moved out west, and after allowing a few months for the brains to thaw, most of them would be passers as well. Some Danes are trying this as well: witness their efforts to steal part of Canada. Unfortunately for them, they are geographically confused: Hans 0 is even colder than Copenhagen. No brain thaw available on Hans 0, Roland!
han
Winston, whether 4S is right or wrong, please don't let a single -800 change your future bidding.
Winstonm
Winston, whether 4S is right or wrong, please don't let a single -800 change your future bidding.Never. Heck, I figured I was only an Ace short of super accepting the transfer with 5S. :P Winston
mikeh
Winston, whether 4S is right or wrong, please don't let a single -800 change your future bidding.I agree with Hannie. Heck, I haven't let hundreds of -800's change my approach :P Oh.... you think I should? This is an interesting problem hand on which the actual result proves nothing. And unfortunately it is almost impossible to do a simulation. RHO was in 3rd seat so the 4♥ bid will have an enormous range. Some would open 4♥ with x AKQxxx QJ10xxx void. Or with Ax AKQJxxxx xx x or with xx KQJxxxxx Kxx void and so on. Thus both LHO and CHO could have anything from almost nothing to near openers, and the constraints on the simulation would be open to subjective argument. I voted for the successful wimp-like pass but I would not use the actual result as vindication.
Fluffy
I would probably double, 4♠ can work better often but it is too unilateral. I would say pass is good 30% of the time, double 45% and 4♠ 25%.
