Guest Jlall
This idea is well known to many strong clubbers. I think that you really have to play pass as forcing over 1C-(pass)-1D-(3S)-??. Remind me to bid 3S a lot against you, especially with very good hands :) Justin, I wish you many good hands with long spades after my strong 1C openings. Others :P should see how to play nice like this :P ........polite :) but just sufficiently menacing :P .....roflmao lol Hannie and I are friends, but we are both sarcastic, I don't think the plan was to be offensive by either of us lol. han
I actually didn't mean it as menacing at all, and as you know, I'm always very polite :P. But usually when I open 1C, it is our hand. When they overcall 3S early in the auction, it becomes very hard for us to explore the best spot. Playing pass as forcing allows opener to show 2-suited hands (pass and pull, showing that suit and a higher), one suited hands (bid a suit immedately), penalty doubles (pass twice) and take-out doubles (double directly). As I said, sometimes you are fixed and it would be better if you could pass out 3S. I would not play pass as forcing when the opponents jump to game, but over 3S it seems like a very good trade-off to me. I was under the impression that most top American pairs who play a strong club system have such an agreement, but obviously Justin knows this better than I do. It would be interested if he could tell whether Meckwell, Hamway, Cohen-Berkowitz and others play this. Perhaps we will see some of this when the Bermuda bowl starts. So then it is a fudge to allow you to describe the hand that 1C was hiding...at the 4 level...well, 3S is an effective preempt
