Can you get to this grand?

1 (3) 4 (5) 5 (pass, I assume) 5 (pass) 5NT seems a good start, but I'm not sure that I'd actually push beyond the 6 level.

4NT, you want to play in slam, no fooling around and start finding out what you need to know.

And nice way to find out if pd kept up with his Dopi-Ropi.

After his pass of 5 you bid 5 asking for trump Q. He bids 5, showing the Q and K and you bid 5 NT asking for any extra Kings. And he shows you the K and you bid 6 letting pd know that with K or shortness you want to play grand. And he bids it.

I think you've got the wrong hands bidding.

13?

South opens 1S. West bids 3C. Over anything that North bids at the 4 level, East will bid 5C. Can you get to the grand?[/hv]

I don't think there is a "scientific" way to bid the GS BUT I will bid 6over the 3 prempt

Well bearmum's method will get you there (how can south, with four aces, not raise to seven?), but I don't like the 6 bid as could easily be off two cashing aces, or making seven.

I accept that north, holding second round controls everywhere, could launch into Blackwood (better than 6 direct, IMO), but this seems non-ideal.

I'm also not a huge fan of the 4 splinter with the this hand, as partner may well undervalue his K.

I think that 4C is the only possibility for the first bid. I play 4D as a support jump shift, so splinter is out. Over 5C it gets very hard. Some play that 5NT is still RKC in auctions like this, that might help.

1S 3C 4C 5C

Pass Pass X pass

5D pass 5H pass

6C pass 6D pass

7S

not at all clear, but I do like a pass over 5C with the south hand. Pass+pull=strong plus if partner doesn't X you'd really like to here what he bids.

I like the suggestion of the pass over 5. That certainly helps matters.
