P_Marlowe
Hi, I am not good in it, but the best linefor getting 3 tricks seems to be low to the 8. If the 10 or the Jack appears cover it,if not lead low to the 9. Following the rule, if you dont want an honor to be covered, dont lead the honor. Regarding getting 4 tricks:I am not sure, if there is a possiblelayout, and unless the defence makesa mistake, getting 4 tricks is rather hopeless. With kind regardsMarlowe
whereagles
4 tricks: seems like I'll have to play LHO for Kx or Kxx. Ace and low to the queen. 3 tricks: low from both hands at trick 1. Then low to the queen. This is probably wrong, but that's what I'd try at table. :D
Guest Jlall
Hidden... 3 tricks, low to the 8, covering if LHO puts in the T or J. After that low to the queen. This will pickup the suit whenever it is possible to be picked up, but loses to KJT7 on righty. For 4 tricks, you will always need a 3-2 break because of your lack of spots, so all other breaks do not need to be considered. The best line for this is ace then low to the queen unless RHO puts in the T or J at trick one, then lead low to the 9. You will lose to JT offside this way, but will pick up KT or KJ. You also pick up any KH/Kx/KHx onside. That doesn't mean this suit combo isn't interesting at the table. Say you KNOW RHO has the king from the bidding. You might try the intra finesse. Lead low to the 8, then lead the Q from dummy on the next round. You will pickup KHx on your right with this line. You may also just play for Kx/KH doubleton on your right. han
I came to the same conclusion as Justin, and I'm glad he mentioned the intra-finesse (not because it the best play but because it is so much fun). When my partner had these at the table yesterday she went down because of a 5-0 split. Hard to guard against that!
Trpltrbl
40.7% for 4 tricks, A and then small to the Q.90.4% for 3 tricks, small to the 9, followed by small to the Q if all played small. GBB :P
newmoon
40.7% for 4 tricks, A and then small to the Q.90.4% for 3 tricks, small to the 9, followed by small to the Q if all played small. Basically correct, but.... for 4 tricks: when you play the Ace and if righty drops the T or J, you should continue with a small to the 9 next. This caters for K-T or K-J tight on your right.
