Blofeld
I suppose I double, though I'm not convinced that this is right. I considered 4NT, and then thought "no, that's a stupid bid". Which probably means that that's what I would have bid at the table before the second thought caught up with the first. :P
pbleighton
Double, and hope. Peter
Echognome
For those that double, is partner supposed to think that you have a shapely takeout hand or a strong balanced hand or just extra values in any shape hand?
Guest Jlall
4N, planning on correcting 5C to 5D. This hand is a very high offense to defense ratio. X could be a winner, but it could also concede a double game swing (think diamond void). X is takeout but partner will usually pass. The reopening X is always based on extras and usually short spades but could also be a balanced 18-19 with a doubleton or a 6322 hand type. Al_U_Card
Agree with the 4NT, as 5D with that suit is a reasonably safe landing spot.....
P_Marlowe
5D. With kind regardsMarlowe
mikeh
I double, intending to correct 5♣ to 5♦ of course. Similar intention as 4N, but adding the chance of the penalty pass. Partner could not double with penalty intentions, so I need to protect against that possibility. Double clearly has an extra downside compared to 4N, but it also has a higher upside. 4N close 2nd choice
awm
4NT. Happy that I play partner's double as penalty in this auction. Double from me would be general values, normally 18-19 balanced or the like. Partner doesn't need much for us to make 5♦ or 5♥, and even if we aren't making it could be a good unfavorable sacrifice, or opponents could take out cheap "insurance" by bidding to 5♠. han
Also double for me. Agree with awm that 4NT is better if partner's double would have been penalty.
Fluffy
I would not pass, between double and 4NT I will pick double.

Echognome
I've been away, so sorry for the lateness in replying. Either double or 4NT will lead you to winning the board in either 5♦ or 5♥. Spades makes 10 tricks (11 with bad defense) and they will probably sacrifice, but any plus score is good.
