pigpenz Posted October 3, 2005 Report Share Posted October 3, 2005 if you dont eat a few doubles then your arent doubling enough, partner opened the bidding, granted partner could have just as easy disounted a jack and opened 2♥ which might have stopped you from doubling...but off of this auction theres nothing wrong. I ask only because he bid his values twice, yes? What I mean is over 2♣ he doubled. This shows 4♠ and what, 8-11 points (fill in your preferred range). What did he have? The promised 4♠, and 10 hcp, with the KQ of spades looking poorly placed. If this was MATCHPOINTs, ok double would be fine. But here if partner knows you have what you have, you can pass and let him consult on what to do next. This is not a forcing pass, but it allows partners input. On this hand, partner with nothing (on this bidding, did you expect him to have much more than a lot of hearts?), can tamely pass. Incidently if this had been matchpoints, ... the double only cost you one matchpoint (one pair 4♠ making). Once they found spades, you were pretty much doomed at matchpoints, as 4♥X, 3♠, are essentially the same score. But at imps, there is a world of difference between -170 and -530, but very little difference between +50 and +100. Keep that in mind I think. As for setting 3♠, forget about it.
