How to bid?

Let's give partner AQxAQxxAKxxKx which is a perfect maximum--you have three spades, three hearts, five or six diamonds, and two clubs. You are laydown for 6 and 7 depends on dropping the queen of diamonds (about 52%).

Now put a small diamond eslewhere and the grand well is below 50% (you need Qx or Qxx on side) but 6 is still virtually laydown (5-0 diamonds beat it).

Now also remove one ot the queen and six is in considerable jeopary.

Now if partner has QxxAQxxAKxKQx and 6 is down more often than not. Now consider the hansd where we are off two aces or AK . . .

Lacking more sophistcated slam tools, I would try 4NT natural and invitational. If we needed a swing and I wanrted to shoot on this hand, I'd pass and hope the field is going down in slam.

I'll drive it to slam, but I'll go through 4C first. Immediately bidding 6N seems lazy as we can be off 2 aces.

Is that a quantitaive (or better) NT raise with a 5-card minor and no 4-card major? Then I agree. I can't imagine that it can be anything else with this hand.

As I said Roland I am CHOOSING to drive to slam anyways. I am the same as the bundle of 2N-6N bidders. I am just CHECKING that we are not off 2 aces. Despite your (and my) lack of love for this convention, if we're playing it and you choose to drive to slam, you might as well use it if you can be off 2 aces.

Only possibly disadvantage is a lead-directing double.
