Just curious as I havent run into anyone yet using it in any acbl games, maybe I have and dont know it...if someone is using it how will we know?

It is not functional yet... my understanding is currently you load it and you can see the bids your opponents and make based upon CC on your computer. You are unlikely to have their CC, and to be honest, the functionality wasn't built in to help you remember your own methods... .but clearly it will be used for that online as well i guess.

I think we are not yet where we load our FD method and our opponents can see it. That will be a glorious day.

Ben is correct.

Hopefully the glorious day is coming soon. There is not that much more work required to reach that point, but unfortunately Uday and I keep getting bogged down have to deal with other issues and this has slowed things down.

Hope so too but "festina lente!". First be sure to get prepared to play the Bermuda Bowl :)

Thanks! I am doing some of that, but here is an FD update:

I am going to Portugal on Wednesday. Most likely by the end of today Uday and I will have a version of the BBO client and server that can handle just able all of the "network aspects" of FD that will go into our first official release of the FD-enabled version of BBO.

The actual official version (ie an autoupgrade) will likely not happen until at least mid-December, but we plan to release a beta before I leave for Portugal. If we are worried that the FD stuff in this beta is not stable enough to allow people to use it on the real BBO server, most likely we will set up a test environment (mini-BBO) so that the real FD-enthusiasts place to experiment without the risk a server crash that would impact 1000s of people.

The basic idea is that, when you first log in to BBO, the server will send your client a list of the most recent default convention cards and convention files. Your client will check its hard disk to see if it needs new versions of any of these files. If it does then it will send a request to the BBO server and the download will happen automatically.

When a user wants to use an FD file for actual play, the process will be similar to that which is now used for the existing convention cards (the user will send a copy of that file to the server and the server will distribute that file to the other people at the table).

Most of this is working now and it should be working completely soon.

It is likely that you will be able to store your FD files on our server as well, but maybe not in the beta release. There are several nice advantages to doing this. One is that members will be able to say "this is my favorite conventionc card", upload it to the server, and then other members will be able to download and browse that convention whenever they want.

After the network aspect of the BBO-FD integration is out of the way, my main non-bridge-playing priority will be to review some of the design decisions I made for FD itself (such as exactly what information is stored in FD files).

Look for more news about on FD on Forums within the next couple of days. Sorry this is taking longer than expected - thanks for your patience.

No real content in this post, I just wanted to applaud Fred and Uday for their work!
