fred
If you just want to use the latest version of FD, click here: Click here to download latest version of Full Disclosure! The rest of this post is intended for people who: 1) Have used FD2) Have reasonable computer skills (ie are comfortable with notions like files and folders) If that sounds like you, click on the following link to download a test version of BBO (version 4.4.6) that includes substantial integration with FD. IMPORTANT - Make sure you exit BBO COMPLETELY before you try this: Click here for version 4.4.6 of BBO and version 1.1.2 of FD! Version 1.1.2 of FD (and version 4.4.6 of BBO) contain some basic functionality for including references to external FD files in FD (.bss) files. Hopefully this will lead to a relatively simple convention card editor that our average member (who tend to be afraid of files and folders) can use. He will be able to open one of our default convention cards (SAYC for example) and then add his favorite conventions (inverted minor suit raises for example). You can get a rough idea of how this will work through the "open in work convention card" command in BBO followed by clicking the (new) "manage conventions" button that you will see after you open a file. Right now this facility does nothing more than list available conventions - clicking on these conventions has no effect. Suppose that the inverted minor suit raises file is called named "inverted.bss" and that it resides in a folder named "conventions" (BBO 4.4.6 will automatically create this folder for you when you run it for the first time). The resulting file will contain a line that looks like this: +inverted.bss When the user opens his main FD file, inverted.bss will be opened as well. The result will look pretty similar to what you would see if you used the existing Merge command to add inverted.bss to the main FD file. When an FD file is saved, the lines that start with + remain (as opposed to all of the sequences defined in the external file being included). Sorry if I have not explained this very well, but I suspect that it will be obvious how all of this works if you try it! As you will see, this part of the program is still a little rough around the edges (and no doubt contains some new bugs), but I wanted to get a version out and receive some feedback before I spend too much more time on this facility. If you are inclined to make some convention files, it is a good idea to include a name for the convention in the same way you can include a name for your bidding system files. You will see this names you select appear in various places in the program. At this point in time, files that are attached to a main file using + cannot contain their own + symbols. You cannot edit/define bidding sequences that were produced through +. Edit the file that the + refers to if you want to make changes. One other change worth mentioning: When you click on an opening bid and the setting for dealer and/or vul does not match that of the bid you click, you are now asked a question like: Ignore dealer and vul? If you answer "yes", you will be shown the bid you clicked on with its existing dealer and vul characteristics. If you answer "no", you will be shown the bid you clicked on with the characteristics of the dealer and vul that are represented in the pull down menus. Some bugs have been fixed in this version, but there are a couple of (not serious) known bugs that I am intentionally ignoring for now. For now I am also intentionally ignoring all of the suggestions (including some very good ones) that involving changing what appears in the "definition" dialog box. I will have to revisit this issue before too long. I am hopeful that Uday and I will be able to complete most of the rest of the BBO-FD intergration work by the end of the weekend.
