Too high contract, can you make it?

You've landed in a too high 4 against expert opponents (real experts):

[hv=d=w&v=e&n=s984ha98654dj3c82&s=sa753hkqdt8caq963]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv]

after the uncontested auction after West passed:

2* - 2NT**

3*** - 3+

4 ++

* Multi

** Strong

*** Minimum with

+ Invitation

++ Feeling confident!

I don't know why North raised to 4, but here you are!

LHO leads K, continues with Q but then mercifully leads a trump. Now what?

Win K, overtake Q, take hook, cash A, ruff , knock out the last the trump.... then use Ace as entry. Win 5, 4, 1

Playing for 3-2 and 3-3 with king on side.

I think 3 should be signoff not invite. IF you want to invite after 3 (bad hand), use 3, or do you use 3 as signoff in ?

agree with ben on all counts. If you tried say, cashing 2 trumps then ducking a club, they could foil you by winning and playing a spade. Now once you setup clubs you have no entry.

If you had done this at the table you'd have won the Dutch "IMP Hand of the Year" prize for best declarer play. Probably not the prize for best bidding, though. Agree 3 should be signoff.

Anyway, I think this hand was not the best in the competition.

Not to take anything away from whoever won, but I find it hard to believe that this was the best played hand of the year. That is the problem with those contests, 99% of very well played hands go unreported.
