we play 2/1 my p did not know how to bid this, I had no idea either, what is your thoughts on this bidding and what is correct way for 2/1 or your prefered system

1 opened p bid 1nt forcing, we play reverse bergen also so 3!D was not an option for us (not even sure that is a sensible bid either thinking about it now)

would a 2/1 (2 diamond bid) have been sensible)? over 1 !S

i based my 6 diamond bid on 4 quick tricks, I did even consider 3 spades not 2 spades, but I like a slightly better suit for that bid

heart lead kills us, but we never got one (unless we were 3-3 in spades, bit lucky if that is the case I think)

also we were less than half way at a MP tourney and again needed some points so I bid the slam

Hi,

I would probably bid:

1S-1N

2C-3D(partner bidding black suits so I wouldn't get TOO excited)

3S 5D

p

2C=You are too strong for a simple 2S rebid. With 6-4 I really like bidding the 4 card suit, it allows partner to evaluate more accurately if you later bid 3S than a direct 3S would, and keeps club slams in play.

You can still make 6D on a heart lead with 3-3 spades (win, spade to queen, club to ace, AK of spades pitch hearts).

I play 2/1 GF except if responder rebids his suit after a possible min. response.

This way i can bid 9-11 1 suiter.

So maybe the bidding would be

1S 2D

2S 3D (NF)

3S 5D

or

1S 2D

3C 3D (FG, 3C shows 14+)

3S 5D

I also agree with Justin that over

1S 1NT

you are too strong for 2S. Better to bid 2C. 3S is an alternative too, but i dont like it.

From Mike Lawrences CD on 2/1 responder would bid 3 over 1 showing:

Jump Shift to the three level in a lower ranking suit– good 6/7 card suit, similar to a weak 2 bid. Invitational but not forcing. (precludes Bergen Raises). Don’t make a jump shift with 4 cards in the other major.

A 2/1 response shows a MUCH stronger hand.

Making a 2/1 then rebidding shows a long self supporting suit (which you have), but you dont have enough other values.

1S - 1NT

2? - 3D shows:

(delayed jump?) of a new suit is mildly invitational, good 6/7 cards suit (like a weak 2 bid). Not as good as a direct jump on the first round

Opener should bid 2 in response to 1NT to show his extra Spade length. His Spade suit is good. Show the length and quality, don't bid 2.
