4.4.4/FD ns.bss location?

I've downloaded 4.4.4 and tried the obvious places for the ns.bss file without success, namely

C:\Program Files\Bridge Base Online

C:\Program Files\Bridge Base Online\convcards (and subdirectories)

When I "Load NS convention card" I just get a blank card.

All suggestions welcome!

Thanks

Paul

After reinstalling BBO and FD there is still no joy.

An observation: if I select the "Load EW card" when there is no ew.bss, no error occurs and when I "Show EW card" then the window banner just says "EW Convention Card" and there is a blank card.

If I create a simple ew.bss file (shown below) and load it, then "Show EW card" then the window banner says "Full Disclosure - ew.bss" but the card shown is blank and does not show name, summary or the bids.

This may be a symptom of my problem.

*00{Paul}=NYYYYYY2 over 1 with short club
001C=YYYYYYY22811 to 14 balanced or natural
001CP1D=YYYYYYYA084+H

I am using teaching tables to test this.

My system is a normal Win XP2 although I do maintain distinct administrator and user roles (so permissions could be a problem (?) although they haven't been an issue with BBO previously).

ns.bss and ew.bss belong in the same folder as NetBridgeVu.exe. The default folder is:

c:\bridge base online

but it sounds like you changed yours to:

c:\program files\bridge base online

Sorry if I was unclear about this in my previous post.

Fred,

The post was clear enough in that I presumed the correct location ;) - but I am still unable to get it to work despite getting sample working files from sceptic.

If you send me copies of your ns.bss and ew.bss files by e-mail (fred@bridgebase.com) I will see if there is anything wrong with them and let you know.

Paul,

I just tried it again

I have a .bss file in

sceptic convention = wayne.bss

and in the bridgebase main folder = ew.bss

after loading cc when I make an opening bid of 1nt (I only have 4 bids covered in my FD file, it shows a box in the top right hand corner of the screen with the info I typed in

I do not believe opps can see it as an alert yet and I do not think that partner can see it either

it took me ages to sort out, until I had a bidedit icon appear (the one with a little brown cog wheel on the right hand side, it looks like a page with a wheel on it) sorry if I am not to technical here

interesting, I am sitting NS and EW are bidding, I loaded the.bss file and it is showing me NS EW bids to me sitting south

also I deleted all FD except the one in the main BB folder NOT the conv cards folders

I am in a teaching table sitting at all 4 tables so not sure if that makes a difference

You are correct.

You will be the only one who can see these explanations until:

1) We write the necessary code to upload cc's to our server and then distribute these cc's to other people at your table.

2) Other people at your table have an FD-enabled version of BBO.

I am not sure why the file with the cog you refer to is relevant. This file is used by FD to store user options. If it doesn't already exist, it gets created when you run FD. FD is designed to work properly even if this file is not present.
