Guest Jlall
4333 with all of your points in the minors, I don't think I would bid 5S. I would just X 4N hoping to penalize them then X 5 of anything. If partner opened 1S and RHO passed, would you force to slam? I doubt you'd even force to game. The 4N bid should not push you into slam, in fact in should make you downgrade your minor suit values.
shoeless
I like the X - what's your hurry? Show some values. lots of defense and let pard judge his/her hand further. Sawing off 5 clubs could be worth 1400.
Double !
Aha, I recognize this hand! The bidding at our table was much more tame: 1S-"P"-1NT (forcing)-P3H- P - ? what to bid? Some feel that 4D is a cue confirming hearts, some feel that it shows weak diamonds. I looked my "in-and-out" valuation, found most of my high cards to be outside our suits, and bid a tame 4H. Right or wrong, with my easy entry being knocked out early, my P only made 6. Still, gained imps. Plus scores are still good, I guess. the hog
For once I am speechless. 4NT???? 6S???? 7C???? 7S???? Where was this played Wayne, on Mars? The only bid that makes any sense to me at all is the 1S opening.
han
7S makes some sense to me too Ron, for the rest I agree with you. Have never seen something like this before.
Echognome
I have to raise my hand (in shame). I made the 4NT bid. To be fair, I didn't mean it too seriously. But it made for great press. I think Wayne should double this and slam down the hammer on whatever we bid (unless his partner suggests otherwise). We go for quite a bucket in whatever we play. Not sure what 7♣ was about. A bit unfortunate for NS as it turned out.
P_Marlowe
Hi, - I understand 1S- Similar I can understand 4 NT, ... at least the the colours are right => 5D will go down -4, i.e. you trad 800 for 620, but that is the price you need to be willig to pay to get away with 300 / 500 on another occassion About for the rest of auction: ... Dbl of 4NT is clear cut, south has a hand with lots of defence against 5C / 5D, so 6S is not pushy ... it is ... With kind regardsMarlowe
HeartA
For once I am speechless. 4NT???? 6S???? 7C???? 7S???? Where was this played Wayne, on Mars? The only bid that makes any sense to me at all is the 1S opening. Agree mostly. With white to red, 4NT was OK to me though a little aggressive. And as Hannie pointed out, 7S was reasonable, too. mr1303
Why are people saying this 4NT was reasonable? Even at this vulnerability this is just suicide. 6S was equally crazy, you barely have a raise to 3S. 10 of your points are in teh suits promised by your opponents, so you have (for a 6S contract) a working 1 count. Even assuming that RHO has his bid (dubious decision, if RHO is Matt) you need a huge hand to force to the 6 level here, including a lot of shape, and working points. You have neither. 7C, given that he too has a working 1 count, is a bid that wouldn't occur to me either. Especially not if Matt was my partner. I would breath a huge sigh of relief and get the green card out as quickly as possible.
