WJ05 - 2C rebid

What sort of hands are suitable for the sequence 1♣:1♦,2♣ in WJ05? Clearly it shows at least 15HCP. But is there an upper limit on strength? And does it deny a 5♣-4M hand?

It denies a 4-card major, and also is less than a SemiGameForcing in ♣, which would rebid 3♣. It is almost forcing and about 15 - 21 HCP.

Cant check it right now, but if i remember correctly, it doesnt denay 4M, you can bid 2C with 4M if you are strong and dont like to hear pass over 1M.

2C is almost forcing(more forcing then 1M) and therefore you wont bid 3C without good 6 cards, 2C is the normal bid with strong club hands, no need to jump. Ill check it tomorrow.

The system description is not clear (to me)

 

A problem may arise with 15-17 and clubs.  We propose the following agreement:

 

1♣ 1♦

1♥(1♠) 1N

2♣ ?

 

Opener is showing 15+ HCP with a 4-crd major and 5 clubs.  This response is forcing for one round (opener may have a strong hand - difficult to show, e.g. 5431 distribution).

 

1♥, 1♠ rebids

 

......

 

Opener starts with a 4-crd major even with 5 clubs and 15-17 HCP.  With 18+ it’s best to rebid 2♣ instead.

 

Other 2-level bids,  and 3-level minor rebids

 

The remaining rebids at the 2-level (over a negative 1♦) are natural and show a strong club with at least 5 cards in the suit bid.  Same thing holds for a bid of a minor at the 3-level.

 

So my guess about 1♣ -1♦ - 2♣:

a. 15-17, 6♣ or 5♣ + 4♦

b. 18+, 5♣ + 4♦/♥/♠
