Tbl
Is there a way we could create a new type of tourney like a team game (meant for exactly 2 teams) but where more than 2 teams of four players are participating(almost like the Knockouts that many Acbl Tourneys run Today). For example: say you get 7 Teams to Participate in the Tourney. You would have 3 seperate matches, 2 Head to Head matches and 1 Round Robin (for instance teams 1,2,and 3 compete in the round robin(taking 2 rounds time) for which the team who won against both the other teams will advance to round 3 the other 2 Teams will be "excused" from the tourney)(teams 4,and 5 as well as Teams 6 and 7 would be in a head to head match (lasting only 1 round) The winning team of the match moves on to round 2, the losing team is "excused" from the tourney) Using this method ensures three things:1. All Winning Teams will play in every round (this means no sitouts)2. Every Team will have an equal chance of winning the tournament(this means that a team who had all Head to Head matches will have the same number of wins as a team who had a 3-way match (round robin) by the end of the final round)3. No 2 teams play each other more than one time
Tbl
I think I can test what one of these tourneys would be like using this version of bbo. I have heard that you can log in more than one username on the same pc, but that only yellow usernames can do that. If I could do that I would be able to open up teaching tables and run the tourney (one table per username+ a username that the people can actually talk to.) , The teaching tables are needed in order to satisfy that the proper hands are uploaded to the right tables at the right time(in order to give valid comparisons), I can do the scoring and proper movements by hand, is there any way I could try this?? uday
Server has no support for this sort of movement. You can do it yourself. It will involve some grunt work at the start of each round. You won't need to login more than once. You don't need to do this in teaching tables. Setup the various team matches by hand for each round. Email gerardo@ and he will grant you the extended permissions needed to run up to (say) 4 matches at once. You can upload hands to a team game in the brief interval between when you create a team match and when it starts. Enter the team match, click upload hands. Tbl
The problem is that the team match section of your tourney has to supply exactly 2 teams (aka a head to head match) If there were 3 teams wanting to participate (aka: a three-way match)I would have no choice but to have 1 team sit out and have the other two play for one round(ie: only two teams of the three would be able to play at the same time) and round one would take too long. I have to get all three teams to play at the same time.My setup in order to accomplish this would be as follows:(assume that all the people with a starting pair number of one are all in team one...etc)Setting One(aka: round 1)Table(also N/S pair number),E/W pair number,Board set1,3,22,1,33,2,1Setting Two(aka: round 2)(pairs up 1 boards down 1)1,2,32,3,13,1,2This will pose the following resualts when played out(scoring method like that of a team game):1v2 would be compared on Board set 31v3 would be compared on Board set 22v3 would be compared on Board set 1Using this method, a 3-way match will take the same amount of time as two head to head matches would take.Using this logic, we can accomodate as many teams as needed(except for exactly 5 teams or exactly 17 teams, where a 5-way match is needed)Checking acblscore, the following progression works for a 5-way match:(this takes 4 rounds to complete)Round 11,3,22,4,33,5,44,1,55,2,1Round 2(pairs down 2 boards down 1,for every round change)1,5,32,1,43,2,54,3,15,4,2...etcLike up above, each match can be compared on one specifc board set, for example 2v4 as well as 1v5 can be compared on board set 3For this reason, I still think I have to use the teaching tables in order to run this type of tourney correctly(with the execption of having 2,4,or 8 teams). Is it possible for me to try this type of tourney out by logging more than one username from the same pc?
uday
This wont really work even in teaching tables, unless you are willing to jump from table to table to table loading boards one at a time. Seems more trouble than it is worth when a call for players will find you a team in 2 minutes
