Suggestions for Full Disclosure

Somehow I can't reply to the post in which it was announced.

I like this software very much. A small suggestion: if the minimum and maximum suit length promised by a bid are equal, can it not display something like "exactly 4 hearts" (or simply "4 hearts") instead of "4-4 hearts"?

Another suggestion: when a bid is artificial but shows a specific suit can the suit length not made to refer to that suit?

And a 3rd one: it would be nice to be able to use suit symbols in the description area.

Thanks for listening.

Type !H or !S or !D or !C to show or or or symbol. This works in all versions since 1.0.3 or 1.0.4.

Silly me! I should have known it goes the same as in BBO...

Thanks.

When I was first using the Full Disclosure application, I had a similar thought...

I was entering a lot of transfer bids and it seemed strange that I had such a nice mechanism to show show many Hearts where in my hand, but I couldn't use it to show Spades... Over time, I've come arround to Fred's way of thinking.

There are far too many different types of hands that need to be described to attempt to provide radio buttons and pull down menus for every posisble option. Its just as easy to use the description field and provide a concise written explanation. [i'll note once again that these written descriptions will work best if people agree to a common standard regarding how data should be represented...]

Equally significant: When if I make an artificial 2 Heart or 3 Diamond bid or whatever, the opponents still need some information about my holding in the original suit.

Thanks for your comments. I am glad you like the program.

The next version will display "4 hearts" instead of the current "4-4 hearts".

The other points you mention have been addressed by other posters (thanks!).

I am still working mostly on BBO integration and it may be another couple of days until I release a new version of FD (though if anyone reports any serious bugs I will probably attempt to fix them immediately and release a new version).

I suggest we use the World Bridge Federations standard format for descriptions. I know few know these, but they are self explanatory. Here is a short list of terms that I use, taken directly from the instructions for filling out WBF cards....HOWEVER, where room exist, I generally spell out the meaning. Typing PENALTY or OPTIONAL on such doubles if that is they only meaning. And often typing PREEMPTIVE instead of PRE for preemptive bids. Also the radio buttons do a good job on forcing, forcing to game, slam try. SO seldom use those, but some times I say MIN S/T for minimum slam try in words with Slam try selected.

(5431) Any hand with that distribution (suits unknown)

5431 Five spades, four hearts, three diamonds, one club

5[4](31) A hand with five spades, four hearts, and 3{1} or 3}1{

I don't think this works when you try to include them as part of the system summary.

The announcement thread is read-only, but there's a long thread over in General BBO Discussion on Full Disclosure.

http://forums.bridgebase.com/index.php?showtopic=9831

You should probably continue this over there, rather than having two threads discussing the same thing.

You are correct. I will fix this in the next version. Thanks.

When Full Disclosure is integrated into BBO Would it be possible to have a subset of responses that could be automatically loaded from a pulldown list for say RKCB 3014 / 1403 and reg Blackwood as the number of potential bids to get to 4NT and then the myriad of responses may increase the filesizes exponentially?

I'm yet to come up with an effective way of cutting and pasting this into FD?

It is quite easy to merge files.

I recommend you all go that way... rather than bid one huge file to start off with, create several small ones. And then have merge them into large one...

This way, you can merge into one small file, 14,03 blackwood, into another 03,14 blackwood.

I like Kantar keycard blackwood so the number of keycards depends upon who opened/who is strong, so I merge into my bidding sequences different flavors of blackwood depending upon earlier auction... and the copy paste feature helps a lot with this as well....

And by having different components seperate it is easy to add. For example, clearly I will play MisIry with only a few people, so I have a standalone Misiry FD fle. All I need do is open any bidding file. Delete the 2NT, 3C, 3D bids, then merge the two files togehter, and I have added misIry to any bidding system. It is really as easy as taht... (press delete three times to kill three sequences and then merge files).

Hi Ben,

You can merge files quite easily and I have a subset for transfers / Benji Acol 2 bids to replace std English and so on but this replaces particular sequences with new ones but doesn't deal with the issue of merging

1C-p-1D-4NT where 4nt is blackwood and

1NT-2C-2D-3C-4C-4NT blackwood

unless you have a file which has every bidding sequence up to 4NT possible with every variant after 4NT in the merge file and you then need to edit everyone where it isn't Blackwood in your system .

I was thinking of along the lines it might be more efficient for both the user and the application (depends how the .BSS will be stored whether its a total read into storage or file reads each alert) that there was a .bss behind the scenes which 'alerted' the Blackwood bid according to a tick / list box or something?

This would be a substantial file indeed! unless I'm missing something.

Have you started using the "copy" command and the "paste" command yet?

It is very easy to copy entire tries of auctions and paste them into another area...

I paste 03, 14 blackwood on some auctions, and 14, 03 on others according to Kantar rules....

But for some partners I paste in only 14 for partners that don't like two way kantar bids....

The great news is you don't have to go that far on every obscure auction, because you can just alert some bids yourself... if they are rare enough I guess. I am trying to put in the full system under FD just as an exercise.
