  1. One of the aspects of BBO that impressed me from the beginning of my membership here was the presence of Fred Gitelman as a management force. Lately it seems that Fred may no longer be "in charge" to the degree that he was in the past. Was my initial observation inaccurate (Fred wasn't "in charge" even then) or has the management team changed recently? I apologize if this is not the proper forum for this discussion. 2. How are the awards calculated in ACBL tournaments on BBO? I'm not inquiring about the nuances of sectioning or how imps are calculated or how I can get a plus imps score on a hand when I went down 4 in my contract. Just tell me the 'formula' for how the awards are calculated. :)
  3. I just downloaded and installed the latest version of the BBO software, where I read the following comment: Sarcasm can be an effective rhetorical device, but is inappropriate in this type of communication. What, exactly, is the writer trying to say? Phil
  4. In the ACBL Individual toruneys (perhaps other, non-ACBL also), the rules state that you must post a CC. Does this refer to, literally, using the CONV button and loaded a prepared convention card? Or is it OK to use info in your profile? I would like to see something where the first 60 seconds or so of each round in an individual tourney is allotted for discussing your system and posting a CC. I realize that 60 seconds is not long enough to discuss anything elaborate, but you can at least talk about blackwood vs rkc, carding, and a few other basic options. Of course, you can always 'allot' the first however-many-seconds-you-want to discussing system, but it seems that it would work better if this were simply built in to the clock. Phil
  5. I don't think that really address the original poster's issue. I play only sayc (and 2/1 very poorly). Should I avoid signing on as a sub because I will likely run into players who expect me to play 2/1, precision, or acol when I am substituted-in?
  6. Yes, but the percentage may be 0%, right? Perhaps the EVENT TYPE display could also show the percentage. I actually perfer survivor format in a longer tourney. A 0% survivor tourney isn't really a survivor tourney in the sense of the field being trimmed based on score levels.
  7. HI, I was going to cast a vote, but I got hung up trying to choose between mp swiss and mp swiss :D
  8. In longer tourneys (choose your own definition of 'longer'), I prefer a survivor format. If I've played very poorly  for the first half of a long tourney, with little chance of finishing anyways near the top, it's a relief to be cut instead of having to spend another hour or more anguishing over my incompetence. Dropping out at that point is unfair and disruptive to the TD and the rest of the field, but an automatic cut does not bother anyone, except maybe the player who feels confident of a strong comeback :D
  9. I think it would be helpful if the VIEW options included one to restrict the view to those logged on users who are not currently playing at a table. This would make it easier to find and chat with users whom you might want to invite to a table.
  10. I'm curious how the Vugraph sessions "work". I mean, could someone trace the sequence of events from the time a live player makes a play or bid to the time I see the event on my BBO session? Thanks, Phil
  11. I have kibitzed a few BBO Individual tournaments, but never played any. My sense is there is hardly ever any discussion between the partners regarding bidding system, not even a "sayc pls, partner", or "4-way transfers", that kind of thing. Do the individual players assume some standard system? And what if one is only proficient in a single system (like me, and "proficient" may be rather generous :D )? Would I be better off to just ont play in an Individual Tourney? I saw on message thread that discussed a "sayc-only" individual tourney. Are there ever any of these? Thanks.
  12. Me too! When the Tables display is really active, with tables coming and going, it's almost impossible to view individual table info. I think skrshawk's reply addressed one aspect of this issue, that is, BBO never expected that there would be so many members/table active at one time. His idea that there might be clubs devoted to specific skill levels would indeed minimize the number of tables and players on the display at one time. However, I think it would still be worthwhile to give the interface an option to "freeze" the display. That is, I'm browsing tables and I don't mind that the display might be somewhat stale at any given point in time. Or, perhaps build in an automatic, user-selectable delay in how frequently the display is updated. Phil
