  1. Old Canadian joke: Man 1: I went to the fights last night ... Man 2: Was it any good? Man 1: Naw, a hockey game broke out ...
  2. We seem to be drifting towards the concept of technological singularity ... the last thing our species will invent is an intelligent (sentient) computer (program). Unless the bots are being very devious, it don't think we are in any danger ... but then that's what they want us to think ...
  3. Blog post says: "The tourney host ( not a TD, the host – the person who created the Tourney ) must be online at tourney start time" and it is in big letters, so I think she's serious about this. I don't think there is any requirement for the Host to stay logged in for the duration of the tourney. I also believe that all the description strings no longer have any case sensitivity. Peter
  4. Having such an option would be OK but I think watching the play that occurred helps the TD (most of the time) come up with the correct adjustment. i.m not such a good player so certainly helps me, It's the times when it comes down to a guess that I find most difficult. GIB will always assume declarer guesses right.
  5. I too have played the first (last) two days with no sign of results. No way I did well enough on day 1 to make the top 8. Interface shows I'm still registered for the tournament (yellow) even after I played the boards. It won't let me play again. Peter
  6. Documentation is here: https://blog.bridgebase.com/2020/04/18/how-to-run-howell-for-small-tourneys/ If the host account has the permit to use Howell movements ... and is online when the tourney starts ... and you set 18 boards with 3-boards per round ... and run Clocked ... it should do what you describe.
  7. So, are these upgrades for ACBL only or are the virtual club accounts for other NBO's included? Peter
  8. That's what I'm expecting ... not that I'm going anywhere ...
  9. It's called a rounding error. Calculate the %age score for each player on each board; but only to 4 sig figs ... 51.11% say. Thus, depending on the number of tables this number will be more or less accurate. Some scores get rounded up, some down. To calculate each pairs final score; add up the %age scores on all the boards played; divide by number of boards played. Some pairs can get lucky ... others not so. We've been doing it this way for the past [some number] years; why should we change now?
  10. Indeed, I lost connection and logged back in ... things back to normal. Very strange, computers for you I suppose.
  11. I bid 4♥ and hope for the best. My partners will expect just this sort of hand.
  12. If you know the id of one of the players you can use the Hand Record tool.
  13. There is indeed. I've seen examples where one pairs is ranked above an other but has fewer match points. Very sloppy to do your rounding/truncation in the middle of the calculation rather than at the end.
  14. Sounds reasonable ... does this mean only the virtual club Host of the tournament retains access ... assistant directors in large games might also benefit.
  15. I would much prefer to comment on what BBO are going to do and not rumour ... but they haven't seen fit to let some of their user base (customers!) know what will happen in 2 days time what do you expect? I fully appreciate that BBO isn't a charity and deserve to be rewarded for the service they provide. I sincerely hope the suggestion you make that users might be punished for complaining in this forum is not in their thinking. If it is, I may be playing my last game on BBO tonight. Peter
  16. I don't see a way either. The list of running team matches does show who is host so you could send them a private chat. No general pool though. I do think that you are much less likely to want a random substitute for a team match so don't see this as a problem.
  17. This does seem to be the case ... Substitutes button from the table list of a running tournament has the message "I am willing to be a substitute in this tournament". From the list of running tournaments; this is replaced by any. I haven't tried this ... but looks like there is a general (substitutes) pool and one for each tourney.
  18. What does "go out" mean in this context? Leave the tournament lobby; go back to BBO Home screen; log out of the account; something else? Many of us are running our first pairs events with saved deals and need to avoid all the gotchas. Thanx
  19. Can't help with the question of who is permitted to do what ... but I played in a Swiss Pairs hosted by Bedford Bridge Association that used the +break3+ hack There were 16 tables and 6 x 6-board rounds with a break after 3 rounds. The time allocated for round 3 was increased to create the "break". We had 6 different opponents. About half the field played the same pair twice, at least 1 pair had two rematches! Other than rematches, things just worked.
  20. I just uploaded my results from a game on 16 June, so it looks like this process is complete. P
  21. I'm unable to access the results from a tournament I played in (Free Automated Fun) and one I directer (8280) both of which finished normally more than 12 hours ago. Any thoughts? Peter
  22. I too believe this - specific ace ask - was/is part of standard Acol. Responder bids 5NT with two aces (should never have three!); 6C shows ♣A and opener needs to be aware of this when deciding to open 4NT. I've used this opening twice in more than 20 years of bridge playing ...
  23. I have observed the same thing under the same circumstances for the past few days. No idea why this happens.
