  1. 24-board Team Match, all NV. After 1st half you know your team is trailing by 6 IMPs. Do you compete with North hand after your partner 2♣ bid? [hv=pc=n&n=sj7hj5djt864cj964&d=e&v=0&b=14&a=1s2c3c(art%2C%204-card%20fit%2C%20inv%2B)]133|200[/hv]
  2. Clear 2♥. If partner has a non-minimum hand (15+) will continue bidding.
  3. Team Match, all non-vulnerable, Dealer: East. As South your hand is: ♠965 ♥A103 ♦K42 ♣AKQ4 Dealer (RHO) opens 1♠. What do you bid (if any)?
  4. Assuming that West makes sound preemptive bids when vulnerable you should expect East to be nearly broke. Thus the question to bid further as to do more with distribution than HCPs. With misfited hands distribution can be nasty. Would save my thinking for another fight. Pass.
  5. Definitely a takeout double. North should give priority to ♠ and, since he has 9-11 HCP, should jump to 3♠. Reaching game is not easy though since South is minimum but a good ♦ suit and the vulnerable bonus should make you optimistic.
  6. I am not sure that classical 1♦ Precision opening is 4+♦ (doubt it!), but certainly is 11-15 HCP. From C.C. Wei and Berkowitz classic books on Precision, 1♦ opening is 2+♦ and 11-15 HCP. Below is what I play with my regular precision partner on 1♦ opening: 1♦ ...1♥!/♠!: 6+ HCP, can have just 3 cards (although Opener shld assume 4+), can have the other major, F1R ......1♠: 11-15 HCP, 4♠, unbalanced ......1NT: 11-12 HCP, balanced, can have 4♠ & 3♥ investigated through checkback stayman ......2♣: 11-15 HCP, unbalanced, can have more ♣ than ♦ ......2♦: 11-13 HCP, 5+♦ ......2♥: 11-15 DH, 4+♥ ......2♠: 16+ DH, mini-splinter to ♥ ......2NT: 14-15 HCP, 6 card solid ♦ suit ......3♣: 14-15 HCP, at least 5/5 in the minors ......3♦: 14-15 HCP, not so solid ♦ suit :) ......3♥: 16+ DH, 4+ ♥ ......3NT: 14-15 HCP, 7 card solid ♦ suit ...1NT: 8-10 HCP, usually balanced but can have long ♣s if no tolerance to ♦s, denies 4+ major, NF ...2♣: 11+ HCP, 4+ ♣s, can have 4+ major, F1R ...2♦: 11+ HCP, 5+ ♦s, denies 4+ major, F1R ...2♥/♠: 2-5 HCP, 6+ major good suit, no outside values, to play ...2NT: 11-12 HCP, balanced, denies 4+ major, NF ...3♣!: 8-10 HCP, 5+ ♦s, denies 4+ major, F1R ...3♦: 0-7 HCP, 5+ ♦s, preemptive ...3♥/♠/4♣ are splinters to ♦ ...3NT: 13-17 HCP, balanced, to play ...4♦: preemptive ...4♥/♠: to play
  7. Although with poor values (queens and jacks) with a shapely hand I like to compete. 2♣ is my choice.
  8. Playing normal Precision, with the following Match-Point bidding: Opener Hand: 5=3=1=4 Responder Hand: 1=3=6=3 1♣-(P)-1♦-(P) 1♠-(P)-2♦-(P) Assume that 1♠ is limited to a bad 21 HCP (yes, they do exist!) and 2♦ shows 6-7 HCP. 1. Should Opener rebid 3♣ with 16-18 HCP? 2. Should Opener rebid 4♣ with 19-21 HCP?
  9. Playing IMPs. Both vulnerable, you have this hand: ♠6 ♥AJ742 ♦KJ8 ♣9843 The bidding was: (3♠)-Pass-(Pass)-? What is your action, if any?
  10. Playing checkback (or checkback stayman) what is the diference between the following auctions: 1♦ P 1♥ P 1NT P 2♣ P 2♦ P 2♠ And 1♦ P 1♥ P 1NT P 2♠ What responder shows in each situation? Assume that checkback is forcing 1 round at least.
  11. As West you hold: ♠ATx ♥KJTx ♦Q ♣AJTxx EW are vulnerable and NS not vulnerable. North Declarer. Bidding: After two passes, South opens 1♠ in 3rd position, you as West overcall 2♣, North bids 2♦ and after two passes what is your action? Assuming you double, North redoubles, your partner East passes and South, after some thought, passes too. Your bid?
  12. You have this hand (add: playing IMPs): ♠ 83 ♥ 3 ♦ Q10942 ♣ AQJ62 After two passes, on your right open 1♠. You are vulnerable against not vuln. What is your bid? - Pass - 2♣ - 2♦ - 2NT (Unusual)
  13. Double leaves more options open. 2♣ seems a bit unilateral
  14. Your hand as South [hv=s=sk6hk4dqj962cj987]133|100|[/hv] W N E S 1♣ 1♠ 2♥ ? Your bid (usual range for partner overcalls)?
  15. Your hand as North [hv=s=skjt65haq83daq3c9]133|100|[/hv] Bidding goes like this (no interference from Opps): N S 1♠ 3♦* Two questions: 1) Your bid? 2) Does splinter bids apply (4♣) or would be considered natural? * Bergen raise 10-12 with 4 card support
  16. [hv=s=skq6hkj74da7653c8]133|100|[/hv] You play 2/1 and your partner opens 1♥. Which of the following do you prefer (all of them GF)? a ) 2♦ b ) 2NT Jacoby c ) 4♣ Splinter d ) none of the above (please specify your choice) Now, upgrade your hand to: [hv=s=skq6hkj74da7653c8]133|100|[/hv] Would you maintain your choice with the same opening from your partner?
  17. You have: ♠AJx ♥QJx ♦Jxx ♣J109x You are playing in MP and your partner opens 1♥ in 1st position. Which bid would you choose? a ) 2♥ (constructive raise 8-10); or b ) 1NT (forcing 1 round) aiming to jump in ♥ on your next turn
  18. Your hand in first position: ♠ KQ74 ♥ K9876 ♦ AQ ♣ 42 You are non vulnerable against opps vulnerable. Your partnership plays 2/1 system with positive trial bids. You open 1♥ and your partner makes a constructive raise (8-10 HCP) to 2♥. What do you bid (no bidding from opps)? a ) Pass b ) Trial Bid c ) 4♥ d ) any other bid PS: Flannery bidders give me a break...
  19. On a recent online play I received this hand: ♠Q5 ♥A975 ♦65 ♣AJ852 Bidding goes like this: OPP1 ME OPP2 PARTNER Pass Pass 1♦ Pass Pass 2♣ Pass 2NT Pass ? Some Marty Bergen fans (like me ;) ) would open my hand but (unfortunately) that day I didn't and decided to wait for further developments. After my 2♣ balancing bid, my partner came up with a 2NT bid. What now? What 2NT means for you on this bidding ?
