I was wondering what the PT count would be for responding to a weak two opening. I bid two hearts, and we wound up making four after partner passed. He wasn't strong in hearts, but had 14 high card pts. I like to play aggressive, and always try for game. Is a raise in NT the response to encourage a game bid? Thanks for any opinions.

Lack of skill???

Is there anyway to bid for a penalty double instead of a takeout in answer to an opponents opening bid? I'm playing South and West opens 3D. With no raise possible, but a decent hand (12pts), I'm thinking West can't make 3D if North can give me two tricks. Well I passed, all passed, and the contract went down 2. This was with GIB playing all other seats, and the results were the same. All South seats passed down 2. South seats doubling wound up with North going down 2 0r 3 after bidding 3H. This was IMP (in response to one of the replies to this post).

I've been playing with GIB robots to improve my game, and have come up with a recurring problem. The situation is partner and I have both passed while opps bid up the contract. Occaisionally they reach a contract I think we have a good chance of stopping, so I double. This is always interpreted by the robot as a takeout when I meant it as a penalty. The question is, how do you communicate to partner the specifics of a double? I always understood takeout was limited to first round of bidding. Is this something people encounter with human partners?
