  1. Somewhere between 1♠ and 4♥x, I develop a deep trust for partner...and Pass.
  2. My partner and I play 2/1 with 4 suit transfers. We play a Standard strong NT range of 15-17. So: 1NT - 2♠ (transfer to ♣'s) And: 1NT - 2NT (transfer to ♦'s) And: 1NT - 2♣ 2♥ - 2NT (Invitational-denies 4 card major) And: 1NT - 2♣ 2♥ - 2♠ (Invitational with a 4 card ♠ suit) This is the GIB system as well, and, I had thought to be rather standard. The drawback being that it wrong sides a possible ♠ contract. However the following alternative method came up: 1NT - 2♣ 2♥ - 2NT (Invitational values, does NOT deny four ♠'s) 3♠ - (3NT/4♠) (3♠ showing a max NT and four ♠'s) The advantage being that it right sides the ♠ contract. Would love some feedback. At face value it does not have any major flaw, but, maybe others could enlighten me as to which is the better mousetrap. Thanks! :)
  3. I give West 100% of the blame for that *^%$ Double... until East decided he wanted a piece of the action and wrestled 99% of it back from his partner by failing to lead the ♣.
  4. Both of my regular partners and I play these "JUMP REVERSES" as Mini-Splinters, and, not GF. Billy Miller describes it in his Dear Billy column as a "Splimit". The Bridgehands website shows a similar treatment, calling it a Mini-Splinter. However they add the following, "Note: partnership agreements for Mini Splinters - some play opener's jump forces game." I have seen other players use Jump Reverses, 1a (P) 1c (P) 3b as a GF with specifically a stiff, with the 4 level splinter as a Void. So...whatever floats your boat apparently. :D
  5. Q1) Yes, Pass shows values. The delayed entry into the auction is a bit strange but I would still treat the responder pass the same. Q1A) To Pass interference in a 2♣ auction to show "values" I would think it requires anything you would NOT consider to be in the double-nagative category. This hand with a K and J barely qualifies as "values". Q2) Since ♥'s were not bid previously, the Kokish 3♥ shows a "single suited" hand with ♥'s, and, it should set trumps (does it? have you made this agreement?). I would think anything above that is a control bid by East. But, he went straight to game. So, even though partner's previous pass showed "values" greater than a double-negative, it's time to back off. Partner initially told us he had values and has further defined his hand (saying "I have nothing more") with the 4♥ bid. :)
  6. I am no expert, but, Pass  is out of the question. Any response to RKCB should be safe, (hope to hear 5♥/♠). Gotta go...
  7. (1♥) - P - (2♥) - 3♥ What is 3♥?
  8. McCoy's face was scarlet cuz Kirk had no Ready Room, so he was probably hanging out on the exterior of the ship. Ain't no bridge discussed on the bridge of course. And Spock's eyebrow (scientist that he is) was raised because he was curious how long McCoy could hold his breath.
  9. What are the odds of getting a Royal Fizbin?
  10. hmmm...I once had a partner who often attempted something similar to the Ostrich Coup, but his head was not in the sand, it was elsewhere. ;)
  11. ♦7 is a cute ;) theory but I would posit that it is a ♠ (no guess as to which one)
  12. (1♦) - 2♠ - (P) - 2NT What is 2NT?
  13. Is Minorwood Alertable at the time the bid is made? Or, is it a Delayed Alert, after the auction? If an opponent asks immediately following the bid, what should be the explanation? Thanks!
  14. Q-bid. Opener did not bid 2♥, instead opting to support ♦. So, opener does not have 4♥'s. ;)
  15. The full hand here: [hv=pc=n&s=saj74h6dk752cat94&w=s2hjt95432dt4c862&n=s9hakq8daq863ck53&e=skqt8653h7dj9cqj7&d=s&v=0&b=11&a=1dp1h1spp3s(Splinter%20-%20Diamond%20support)p3np4dp4sp6dppp]399|300[/hv] 3♠ was intended as a Splinter showing ♦ support. Had I wanted to find out about a "♠ stopper" I could certainly have bid 2♠ and partner would bid NT. So....3♠ must be a splinter. 4♦ then, was Minorwood, and, we are off to the races. My partner at the time, also thought the 3♠ bid was a stopper ask, though in hindsight he agrees with my bidding. I was curious about what the forum experts would think since my partner and I had a slight disagreement over this. Thanks! :D
  16. What is going on? What is 3♠? 1♦ - (P) - 1♥ - (1♠) P - (P) - 3♠?
  17. Same Topic....new hand: [hv=pc=n&n=sa983ha2dq9653c74&d=s&v=0&b=11&a=1hp1sp3cp]133|200[/hv] The hand is really immaterial. You may or may not agree with the initial 1♠ response. What I am interested in is, what should the possible (3 level) rebids by responder show? So...what is: 1.) 3♦ 2.) 3♥ 3.) 3♠ 4.) 3NT Thank you!
  18. OK....great. I too thought 3♣ was the standout choice and that was my bid. But....you mention a 2NT "slow down", however, it has a different meaning than a Leb or Ingberman 2NT...yes? A Jump-Shift is still a Game Force? Thanks! p.s. Would still love for someone to start a virgin thread and expound on these follow-ups to Jump-Shift ideas. :D
  19. [hv=pc=n&s=s6ha54daq632c8752&d=n&v=0&b=1&a=1cp1dp2sp]133|200[/hv] Now....? An additional comment: The pinned primer on REVERSES is great information. It would be great to have a similar thread on Jump-Shifts with contributions from qualified experts. :) As Justin has stated previously, bidding after Jump-Shifts is one of the most misunderstood, highest-error areas of bridge. Thanks!
  20. [hv=pc=n&s=saqjt73h7dkqca983&d=e&v=0&b=14&a=2h]133|200[/hv] What is your preference?
  21. Assuming "Natural" bidding methods, Standard, SAYC, 2/1....whatever. The following: 1♦ - (P) - 1♠ - (P) 3♣ ...is a Jump Shift and a Game Force. Depending on agreements, around 18-19+. But what about this? 1♦ - (P) - 1♠ - (2♥) 3♣ ...where there is interference AFTER responder? Is it still a "Jump Shift", or are you calling it something else since 2♣ was not available? Is it still forcing? If yes, how forcing? What sort of strength is 3♣ promising?
  22. An interesting discussion from several years ago here: Four-Four in Majors After Partner Opens 1NT (15-17) As expected....no clear consensus, but, I tend to do it the weaker I am. If 6-7 HCP I am more likely to pass on the theory that 1NT will make. :)
  23. There is a previous discussion of MSS over 2NT here: Minors over 2NT B-)
