  1. Surely this is intended as a joke? Citing material from a half-century ago and trotting it out as "authoritative" would seem to be poor tactics in an online disagreement. But maybe that is intended, with the "gotcha!" statement to follow?
  2. I'm convinced of it, which makes his posts all the more entertaining. I have an admittedly sick curiosity about just how laughable his next post will be.
  3. This . . . is standard in this sequence.
  4. It is only Gerber for those who don't know any better.
  5. Reverse? There is no reverse possible.
  6. Of course it's Michaels. The OP shows it as 5/5 Majors.
  7. In the following (uncontested) auction, what is the best use for this jump to 4♣? 1NT - 2♦ - 2♥ - 4♣?
  8. For me . . . not a forcing pass situation. However, I would expect a powerful hand for the 4♠ call, or extreme distribution.
  9. If not playing 2/1, then yes, a jump to 3♠ is a Game-Force. You could also force game with a 4SF 3♣ -- as you attempted to do. If unhappy with your partner's subsequent jump to 4♥ you should have a stern discussion with partner at the bar during the post-mortem. ;)
  10. Not only forcing, but 100% Game-Forcing. With a weak misfit, responder just passes.
  11. Me too. 3NT. Boring, yes. 1♣ - 1♦ - 2NT - 3NT
  12. After reading PhilG's previous posts, filled with masterful bridge analysis, lucid arguments, and peppered with eloquent rebuttals aimed at his detractors, I can't help but chuckle at the memory of the lion he reminds me of. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4trn2lJxl00
  13. Timo, I think you misunderstood Phil's point. What he meant to say was "5♣ is stiff if HE were defending"! ;)
  14. Unfortunately . . . 5♣ is Super Gerber. :D
  15. Um, nope. Do not assume 2♦ is negative.
  16. You seem to be equating pulling off a "swindle" with luck. If we assume that executing a "swindle" to be a conscious effort, it would be a skillful play (not lucky).
