  1. [hv=d=n&v=b&n=skq8hkq6dak4caq92&s=shj74dqjt872ckt85]133|200|Scoring: IMP North Dealer. Bidding proceeded: 2♣ (P) 2♦ (P) 2NT (P) ?? [/hv] Suggestions on how to navigate at least somewhat scientifically to the ♦ slam?
  2. The below hand is the dealer, EAST. [hv=d=e&v=b&w=shdc&e=sqt97hj75d863cqt4]266|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] With an occasional partner, playing 2/1, several gadgets (including Western Q-bids)...the bidding goes: P (2♥) x (P) 2♠ (P) 3♥ (x) 3♠ (P) 4♣ (P) ? Double is obviously takeout. What is 3♥? What is 4♣? :) What is East's next call? Just looking for additional input. Thanks! :D
  3. Is a bid other than pass mandatory here? E-W vulnerable. Sitting South you hold: [hv=s=sxxxhxxxxdkxxxcxx]133|100|[/hv] West opens with 1♣, (X), XX, ? What is your call? I passed, thinking the redouble let me off the hook. It was passed around to my partner who...PASSED! :) ....thinking I wanted to play in 1♣XX. It made +4. I was under the impression that the intervening bid (redouble) allowed me to pass with nothing. Partner said my pass indicated I wanted to play it in 1♣ redoubled. ;)
  4. I'm hoping some more experienced players can help with this. When Q-bidding opponents suit to show support for partner's bid suit, if the opponents have bid TWO SUITS , do some partnerships have different meanings for the Q-bid depending on if it is the higher or lower suit? Example: 1♠ (2♣) P (2♦) 2♥ (2♠*) 4♥ P P (5♦) All Pass *2♠ = Strong support for partners ♦ suit. Since two suits were available as a Q-bid (♥ & ♠), is it the norm for them to have different meanings? Or, would this be some sort of special partnership agreement? I'm not even sure at this point what the different meanings could or would be...just curious. With two suits available, I suppose the Q-bid suit could show shortness as well as support? Or, depending on which suit, higher or lower, it might describe the length or strength of support... Thanks!
  5. :) [hv=d=w&v=b&n=sjt753ht7dqjt82c3&w=sq62ha2da97ckqj62&e=shkqj984dk5cat987&s=sak984h653d643c54]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Four friends sitting at this table and we had a lively discussion after the hand about how to bid the grand. My thoughts: 1NT (pass) 2♦* (pass) 2♥ (pass) 3♣# (pass) 5♣^ (pass) 5♠! (pass) 6♣% (pass) 7♥ all pass Correcting to ♥'s after finding the missing A of hearts, diamonds and K of Clubs. * = Heart transfer # = Showing a good 5 card suit ^ = Love the clubs! (Not sure about this bid. Suggestions? ! = Exclusion Blackwood for ♣ % = 0 or 3 Keys Is there a way to find the missing ♣Q? Does the jump to 5♣ imply posession of it? Do you use Exclusion for (what started) as a minor suit slam? Thanks for your input! :)
  6. [hv=d=w&v=n&s=s2h4dk9875cakjt87]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] R vs. W Dealer at your left opens 1♣, Partner doubles for takeout, RHO passes... What is your call? The trump suit I think is fairly obvious,...but how do you convey this potential monster? What forcing bids are available? ...I chose poorly. :)
  7. Part of my thought process at the table included the following: One week prior to this she was my opponent and the bidding went... My partner, in first seat opened 1♥, RHO bid 1♠, I bid 3♠ meaning it as a splinter for ♥'s. She stated that splinters were not "ON" after interference (which I disagreed with). I would have liked for a 4♠ bid to be Exclusion, but, is this bid Exclusion when the Club suit has not been bid and raised? My first choice of bids was 4♠, BUT, with our previous discussion a week earlier, I chose not to. This was a team match and I was filling in so we had literally 2 minutes to discuss system prior to playing. Unfortunately I had not considered some of the other choices presented, so I just blasted 5♣. The full hand: [hv=d=e&v=b&n=sq863hk9754d54ct7&w=sh63dakt732ckq863&e=sk74hajt8dj8caj42&s=sajt952hq2dq96c95]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Yes...we made 7. :) The only saving grace...it was a push with the other table.
  8. [hv=d=e&v=b&s=sh63dakt732ckq863]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Both sides vulnerable Partner, in first seat, bids 1♣, RHO bids 2♠ (weak), ? What do you bid? Why? My partner was Advanced but I had only played with her once before, briefly.
  9. A bit confused here... Both not vulnerable, West dealer. Bidding goes: P, 1♥, 1♠, ? I am South with: [hv=d=w&v=n&s=shaq82dkt62cajt92]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] What to bid? Obviously by the Topic Title it concerns the use of splinters. I bid 3♠, and, initially everyone at the table said it was not a splinter, then that splinters were not "ON" after interference. A bit of online research has shown that the correct answer is NEVER & ALWAYS. <_< Which is it? Oh yes...if they are "ON" do you bid the splinter or just jump to RKC?
  10. [hv=s=skjt943hq43d4ca75]133|100|[/hv] As dealer, vulnerable vs. not vulnerable, what do you bid?
  11. Thanks for all the replies. Here is the full hand: [hv=n=sqt84h985djt43ckj&w=s92hakq4dak75cq73&e=saj765ht732d62c96&s=sk3hj6dq98cat8542]399|300|[/hv] My choice of bids sitting West was X, though in retrospect I like the 1NT bid. The bidding: P, P, 1♣, X 1♠, P, 2♣, X, P, 2♥, All pass Only one pair bid 4♥, though the bidding went: P, P, P, 1♦ P, 1♠, 2♣, 2♥ 3♣, 3♥, P, 4♥ All pass 2NT was the final contract at several tables, making 3 when a club was not led. 2♠ making was the contract at several others after the transfer by East. If we end up in 3NT North leads his K♣ and continues and we are down. As it turns out we had a good board finishing only behind the game bid and made. I'm not sure how we reach the 4♥ game, if at all, with the bidding. 4♥ also goes down with a club lead (but would North lead a club?). Oh well, I suppose I should be happy with the plus for our side. :( Thanks!
  12. [hv=s=s92hakq4dak75cq73]133|100|[/hv] North dealer E/W Vul Bidding goes P, P, 1♣, ? 1. What do you bid? 2. Why? The full hand...later... :P
  13. Thanks for your replies. I do know that partner really messed up our "agreed" system on how to respond to a strong artificial 2 Club bid. He had never played it before and, even though discussed, he forgot. My question remains, how should it have been bid? After more thought I was thinking this might work: 2♣ P 3NT* P 6♣ P 7♣** P P P *Partner's 3NT showing 10-12 HCP with no biddable 5 card suit. Balanced to Semi-balanced. (This of course would have to be by partnership agreement) 6 Clubs a bit of a risk but with partner's 3NT bid I'm almost guaranteed 2 clubs in his hand, giving me 10 total. Opposite my 6 Club bid without the Ace partner has no problem bidding the grand... I think the real key is partner's first bid in response to 2 Clubs and our mutual understanding of its meaning. Any thoughts? Thanks! :(
  14. Neither Vulnerable Though I am a relatively new bridge player, my partner is even more so. Hence this laughable bidding sequence below. Just prior to sitting down together we discussed responses to a strong 2 Club opening. We agreed that a positive response in a suit required a minimum of 5 cards and 2 of the top 3 honors...or 3 of the top 5. I dealt and picked up this: ♠AK ♥AK4 ♣KQT98754 Here is the bidding: 2♣ P 2♥ P 3♣ P 3♦ P 4♣ P 4♥ P 6♥ P P P I had assumed that my partner had at least 5 hearts headed by QJT since I had the top two honors. When he rebid them I assumed he was void in clubs with the same 5 hearts he had originally mentioned or possibly 6. Partners hand: ♠xxx ♥Qxxx ♦KQxx ♣Ax :( I remember thinking to myself when I bid 6 hearts..."Never lay an 8 card suit down in dummy unless it is trump". Obviously some miscommunication. Apparently I should have insisted on Clubs?! After getting a good laugh at this bidding fiasco :D ...tell me how to bid it. Does partner bid some level of NT as his first response with 11HCP? Do I jump to 4 clubs or 5? How do we reach the cold grand in clubs?
