I held J7xxx 98xx A8x T, white vs red, imp. Pard opened in 1st position with 1♦. Our partnership has just agreed to play reverse flannery so this was the perfect hand to start with this toy and I responded 2♥. LHO overcalled 2♠ (no alert!) regardless of my self alert telling the opps I've got 5♠ and 4♥. Partner doubled, RHO bid 3!c. I passed, of course. LHO passed and partner doubled again. What should I bid now? Pard RHO You LHO 1♦ Pass 2♥ 2♠ X 3♣ Pass Pass X Pass ? l was not optimistic of setting the contract so I retreated to 3♦. Partner bid 3♠. I was not sure about the meaning of this bid and finally decided that opp may psyche the 2♠ or just forgot to alert his cue bid. After some moment of agony, I finally passed. The whole auction was: Pard RHO You LHO 1♦ Pass 2♥ 2♠ X 3♣ Pass Pass X Pass 3♦ Pass 3♠ All pass My pd has become declarer in the miserable 3♠ contract with his monster hand Q AK KQJTx KQ8xx. LHO did have 7♠ and the contract swiftly went down 3 tricks. What is the worst bid of the whole auction? My correction to 3♦ or the final pass or ...?

The actual hand held by partner is x KJxxxx AQxx T2. Only if you can find the switch to ♦, or else you will not be able to set the contract. For those chose to lead passively with a trump. If declarer chooses the spectacular line on not drawing remaining trumps but instead playing ♣ immediately, you will probably face the same problem (unless your partnership is sophisticated enough to show suit preferece signal during the ♣ play).

Thanks for the answers so far. Actually my post consists of two parts: 1. What will you lead? 2. If you lead ♣A, how will you continue? Seems that everyone agrees with the ♣A lead (Or Mike777 will lead ♥9?).
-
You are 2nd hand holding 87x AQ9x xxxx Ax, red vs white, IMP. Your RHO opens 1♠, LHO raises to 2♠ and RHO jumps to 4♠ and ends the auction. What will you lead? If you choose to lead ♣A as I do, what will be your continuation seeing: Dummy holding: T9x Tx KJx QJ9xx, partner following with ♣2 Carding method is udca, and lead A from AK.

Simply great! I can feel the happiness and proudness of the Champions from this great film.

Why shouldn't one follow with 9 but rather the 10? What is the pros and cons for following high or low?
-
You are 4th position, 1st hand open weak 2M, 2 passes to you, what is you minimum requirement for a takeout double? Will it vary between ♠ and ♥? Will it vary with vulnerability? Normal minimum for one level balancing double is 8 HCP with suitable shape. Should we add two points (or 3) for each higher level? OK, one normally use lebenshol (or some variance of it) in responding to pd's direct double over 2M opening, using 2nt to differentiate the strength of one's hand (8 pts, I suppose). Is this principle extendable to balancing double? And is the principle of transfer K applicable here (i.e. 2nt is also the limit but it differentiates hands with 11 pts as the separating line)?

Dummy has a suit with xx, you hold J109 in this suit. If declarer leads a card from dummy, which card should you play, assuming udca carding method? If instead, dummy has Axxx in one suit and declarer leads from his hand a small card, what shall one follow with J109? Any rule for following with touching honors?

[hv=d=e&v=n&n=sjt9xhaxdjt8xcaxx&s=sxxhxdaxxxckqjtxx]133|200|Scoring: IMP W N E S 1♥ 2♣ 2♥ X 3♥ Pass 4♥ X All pass [/hv] The result is not particularly awful, club is 3-1 with EW so 4♥ makes comparatively easily. So just a loss of 170 points. If NS ends in 5♣X, it will either be -200 or -500 depends on whether declarer guess the ♦ position (West with ♦Q9). But is the bidding by NS optimal? Can they do better or is this result just unlucky?

Suppose you hold a 18-19 HCP 1444 hand (in this order and a small singleton). What bid you will open? 1♦ or 1♣ (assuming that playing 5 card M)? Will this choice be changed if the Majors are switched? OK, after your opening, your pd, as expected, bid your singleton suit. What should you rebid? Reverse in OM? Bid om? Jump 2NT? How about your hand is even better with more HCP? or the singleton is an honor? Will this affect your choice of bid?

seems that Italy is everyone's choice for Bermuda Champion. Are they really unbeatable?

[hv=d=w&v=b&w=sq75h963dk52cakq7&e=sahakq82da93cjt96]266|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Do you agree 7♣ a good contract? If so, how to reach it?
-
Sure, I don't think they are making 5♦ too but they bid 5♣.
-
IMP, NV vs V, you hold Axx xxx KJxx Axx Your pd open 4♠ in 1st position. LHO bid 5♣ and followed by two passes. The bidding so far is: 4♠ - pass - pass - 5♣ pass - pass - ? What will you bid?
-
Simple auction, u are in 4th position, bidding went: 1♣ - Pass - 1♥ - ? Opp is playing natural system. What is the meaning of the following bid if undiscussed: 1NT 2♣ 2♥ 2NT
-
IMP, Both, you hold KT9xxx Ax xx QJx LHO open 1NT follow by 2 passes. Will you balance? Will the vul affect your decision? How about if this is MP? If opp's 1NT is wk (12-14), will this affect you? Will your balancing method play a role too (e.g. you can't bid 2♠ directly but rather you have to bid 2♦ first, sort of multi)?
-
You hold AKT9x QTx xx xxx, MP, all vul, The bidding went 1♦ - Pass - Pass - ? OK, it is simple, you balance with 1♠, the bidding then goes on: 2♦ - X - Pass - ? What is the meaning of this double?
-
Small ♠. LHO maybe leading from H10(9)2 (three cards suit). This will be of higher possibility than playing him leading from 10(9)x2 (3 cards suit). And if he led from a 4 card suit, then any play will succeed as the max opp can take is 4 tricks.

I am wondering why so many posts here suggested west to respond with 2♠ and then the partnership can explore slam with more space. For me, 2♠ is a vast underbid and east, upon hearing this rebid from partner, should not dream of slam possibility. And if, as some posters suggested, 3♥ is construed as mini-splinter, how one can show ♣ stiff instead of ♥ stiff over 1♠?
-
The mini-splinter of course work excellently in this hand. But I just wonder how you would construct your system for response to 1M opening. There are three suits possible for mini-splintering, it will take up 3 available bidding spaces which maybe better utilized in other ways.

[hv=d=w&w=sk9xxhxdkqjxxcaxx&e=saqjthaxxdatxxcxx]266|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] This hand was played during US Senior trial. At one table, the bidding went: 1♦-1♠-2♠!-4♠ At the other table, the bidding went: 1♦-1♠-3♠-6♠! Both tables failed to reach the excellent 7♠ contract and one even stopped at game level only. Can one construct an auction to reach the grand with confidence (to bid grand, of course you must know that your chance is very good before you bid it)?

[hv=d=n&v=n&n=sa5haj98dk6cakj93&s=st84hk5daq732cqt6]133|200|Scoring: IMP N S 2N(1) 3♠(2) 3N(3) 4♣(4) 4♥(5) 4N(6) 5♣(7) 6♦ PASS[/hv] (1) 20-21 (2) Transfer to 3N (3) Must bid 3N (4) ♦, slam try (5) cue bid in ♥ supporting ♦ (6) keycard in ♦ (7) 1 or 4 keys ♦ breaks 51 so 6 is cold down while 7♣ is cold made with ♥ breaking not worse than 52 and ♣ not worse than 41 (actually ♥ 43 and ♣ 32) What goes wrong in the bidding? Can anyone bid to 7♣ with these hands?

The CCBA has announced in their webpage that the subject event will be broadcasted in BBO for every round. However, when I click the schedule webpage of BBO, I can see none. So the question is, when will the schedule webpage be updated or something is wrong.

because even S finesse works, you still need to dispose your 4th S

Is This The Right Room For An Argument?
twcho replied to Winstonm's topic in Natural Bidding Discussion
With the modern trend of lighter and lighter opening, responder does need a better hand for GF particularly when no fit is found yet. With a mediocre 13 pts with no fit with pd's opening M, one may need to choose the low path rather than 2/1. And that's the trade off for the more aggressive opening style.
